Red Edge from Nikon 5000 ED Scanner10 Mar 2007 23:17 GMT9
While I like my Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED, I have this
persistent problem: a  red "fog" sometimes is seen on one edge
of a scan. Here are some particulars.

I have been looking for a good bird lens and this looks very interesting but
likely to be out of my price range :)

EOS-1D Mark III Why no 16mm sample images?09 Mar 2007 11:38 GMT11
After looking at the specs for this camera I'm very impressed and I think
this is really going to be a winner for Canon.  They show this body with the
new 16-35/2.8L attached to it, but there are no sample images posted with
anything wider than 35mm.  I and many other people are ...
20D LOSES FOCUS (300 F/4L IS Update)09 Mar 2007 07:05 GMT30
My previous two tests of the 300 f/4L IS showed some peculiarities
that warranted further investigation.  Either the lens was very soft
or else it wasn't focusing properly.
So today I did a quickie test, this time with a brick wall at about a

Almost Arrested In NYC08 Mar 2007 23:19 GMT18
I guess it makes sense with all the added post 9/11 security measures,
but I have been questioned numerous times taking photos of manhole
covers in the city.  I've traveled the world taking pictures - not
always of manhole covers of course - and never been hassled, but it's
DO YOU REALLY NEED PRIMES?08 Mar 2007 07:51 GMT23
OK, sports fans, this weeks test involves the Canon 300 f/4L IS.
Specifically, I wanted to see how it would compare against the 400 f/
5.6L (which sadly lacks IS).  I did a series of shots with each lens
at the official TN Canon Testing Grounds (shot out of my bathroom
Telephoto lenses.07 Mar 2007 15:13 GMT23
I'm looking at buying a telephoto lens.
Is the Sigma 50-500 any good? Is it sharp? Is the Canon 100-400L IS worth
$400 more?
Vivitar Series One 90-180/4.5 K-mount lens07 Mar 2007 04:48 GMT3
I received my new Pentax K10D today.  The main reason I got it is because I
have some excellent manual focus lenses that I wanted to use on it.  One of
those is a Vivitar Series One 90-180/4.5 K-mount lens--an extraordinary
lens.  Unfortunately, there is a metal collar that ...

Is there a usenet group devoted to photography that isn't full of folks
having feuds? This one seems to have gone way downhill lately.
