[SI] New Mandate: "Not Quite Obsolete"10 Mar 2006 03:11 GMT13
"Not Quite Obsolete"
A photograph of anything that is no longer widely used, but can still be
found in use occasionally. Does not necessarily need to be an old object,
newer objects that have already become outdated are also allowed.
Digital and Film 7 years ago10 Mar 2006 01:27 GMT16
I was reflecting on the rise of digital recently, and remembering the
huge film versus digital wars which have raged for a good 7 years or
so.  One of my arguments for sticking to film is that I remember years
ago people were saying that 1MP digital cameras were better than film,

name on the list at B&H, but everyplace I've looked is out of stock.
I'm wondering if this is by chance a side-effect of their recent

Canon 16-35L vs 17-40L ?06 Mar 2006 14:26 GMT15
Any major differences between the Canon 16-35 f2.8L USM and the 17-40
f4L USM?  Optically, I mean.  The extra stop of the 16-35 is nice,
though the wider range of the 17-40 is desirable, also.  Both are
relatively new and both are "L"'s.
Flash advice05 Mar 2006 17:43 GMT2
I use a Sunpak 444D flash on my Oly OM2n. While the flash works
nice, I find it too bulky/heavy for hand-holding. Any suggestions
for a smaller flash? I'd like to have bounce capability, but I guess
swivel and partial flash power capabilities would be asking for too

I'm going to Gabon for a month in the rainforest and I was wondering if
you could help me decide whether or not to buy a Kenko extension tube
set for my macro lenses. The gear to be used for close-up work is:

The right telephoto lens04 Mar 2006 19:37 GMT21
I'm looking for the optimal lens to capture moderate close-ups of
persons at indoor functions with available light. I don't mind anyone
knowing I'm taking their pictures, but I want to remain outside the
realm of action and as unobtrusive as possible. My intent is to take a

a cat lens, Chrlz has taken full advantage and turned that defect into a
