Lens Mount Guide15 Oct 2005 19:34 GMT3
Is there a good web page showing different SLR camera lens mount types.
Google hasn't helped much.
I have a lens which I can not identify.  Its manufactured by Saitex
28-80 zoom which doesn't help either.
Best Prints Are From Colour NEGATIVES??15 Oct 2005 14:12 GMT8
I read somewhere that the writer could distinguish beteween prints made
from film and those from a digital image - the inference being that the
former were best. Looking back at my prints from 35mm color negative I
myself feel that the colours are richer than prints originating with ...
They sent the posse out for me, LOL!15 Oct 2005 05:48 GMT17
The high school that my son goes to has a brick exterior with the name
mounted in big letters offset from the wall.  The way it's lit at night
is very intriging, with the shadows, and such, and I've always wanted
to do some night experimenting with it.
THE LAND WHERE TIME STANDS STILL !!!14 Oct 2005 20:13 GMT16
I was scanning some 50-year old slides for a friend of mine this week
and I decided to go out and re-take one of them.
So here are two photos of the same area, taken over 50 years apart.

[SI] The Shoot-In has reached The End!14 Oct 2005 20:00 GMT11
Wow, how many newsgroup dipwaddles did I get all excited with that
header?
But hey, the Shoot-In is here to stay, and has released another
gallery - "The End", of course, to be found at

Surprizing revelations in EOS-1Ds MKII test: Noise comparable to Nikon D2X13 Oct 2005 17:27 GMT7
I have not expected the noise level to be head-to-head with the Nikon D2x!
  http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos1dsmkii/page19.asp
Hm.. all way up to ISO 1600, same image! Only the D2X black noise
is visibly higher than the both Canons used in this test. I really
What happened to eye controlled autofocus?13 Oct 2005 13:07 GMT6
My old Elan IIE was a great film camera, and I really liked the
eye-controlled autofocus option. Look at what you want to focus on, and the
camera picked the closest focus point based on reflection off your cornea.
It was programmable to each shooter's cornea. With some of ...

The big review many have been waiting for . . .
The conclusions are interesting.

Ilford XP-2: dunno 'bout this film...12 Oct 2005 07:01 GMT49
I tried using this for the first time recently and I am not sure if I am
all that thrilled with the results. I got the roll back from one of the
local Frontier labs and they scratched a lot of the negs - which I only
discovered last night as I was scanning them in. It took me ...

Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS: In Stock?11 Oct 2005 18:44 GMT2
Does anybody know who has the new Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS in stock?
Interesting comparison of the classic Canon 28-135 IS with the new 24-105 F/4L IS11 Oct 2005 18:05 GMT13
Probably one of the best things from Canon was their affordable
(non L) lens 28-135mm IS, with optical properties damn close to
the L class, but with a price tag significantly below any L glass.
This is an interesting shootout between this old lens and the
[SI] critiques 'The End'11 Oct 2005 14:13 GMT10
Please tell me where you disagree with my critiques so I can learn more.
Apologies for being blunt, I'm not in a humorous or generous mood this
week. Don't take it personally, it's me.

What's the functional difference between Nikon PK-11 & PK-11a Extension tube11 Oct 2005 01:24 GMT2
I need an extension tube to use a Nikon PB-4 bellows on a Nikon N90(s) body
and the "recommended" one is the PK-11a but PK-11 are more plentiful and
cheaper.  Since I don't care about any AE or AF issues through the bellows,
what, if anything, will be the functional difference ...
