Just picked up a Leica M4 with 50mm f/2 rigid Summicron at a local
yard sale for $75.
Someone stripped off the vulcanite but otherwise it is in excellent
cosmetic and working condition.

about $29 (18 used) for a Nikon screen and $109 (85 used) for a Beattie at
Adorama.  Can the Beattie be that much better?

A long, long time since I participated in the Shootin. I stopped because
whoever it was who objected so strongly to it's existence, started a
personal attack on everyone contributing to it, me and my wife included.

The current disaster in the Gulf Coast area serves to underscore the
soft underbelly of digital photography: digital cameras are of limited
use if the electrical power is out for any extended period of time.
I've heard predictions that some folks may be without power for weeks.
