Future of Qualex (Kodak) Labs?24 Jul 2005 06:36 GMT15
If consumer film sales have dropped more rapidly than Kodak had
projected, and if Kodak is laying off 10,000 people, 7,000 of which are
in the manufacturing end, what must the prospects be for Kodak's film
processing business?  If they're selling less film, surely they must be
Flash bulbs24 Jul 2005 01:03 GMT15
I remember hearing, years ago, that flash bulbs were filled with oxygen
to make the element burn faster.  Any truth to this?  Also, I heard they
were filled with steel wool.  Was the steel wool the actual filament, or
was the wool in addition to the filament, and the filament ...
How much of the appeal of an image is the image itself?23 Jul 2005 16:10 GMT12
When you look at a photographic image (film or digital), how much of
your enjoyment of that image is based on the belief that that image
represents reality in some way (lens, film, viewpoint all allow a
photographer to interpret the scene but it still represents reality in
Need recommendations for inexpensive slide projector23 Jul 2005 06:10 GMT6
I'm looking for an inexpensive 35mm slide projector, either new or
used.  It will be used to project a single image onto a screen for an
extended period of time (an hour or two), so ability to handle multiple
slides and change between them is not really needed.  Does anybody have

My camera breaks lenses?..23 Jul 2005 02:14 GMT7
I got problem with my second lens - it does not work in autofocus mode
anymore. On initialization it makes a noise and after 10 secs of
crackling camera switchs into manual focus mode. The most disturbing is
fact that it is the second lens that goes in such way... Does somebody
Nikon Value?23 Jul 2005 02:09 GMT5
I have a mint F5 which includes box, papers, etc. which I just don't use. I
want to sell it, but I was wondering what a fair starting price may be. I
know the values have dropped over the past year. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.
Anyone own Focomat 1c?22 Jul 2005 23:56 GMT1

squeak in lens22 Jul 2005 00:51 GMT21
I've got a nikon 17-35mm f2.8, and when it autofocuses, I hear a loud
squeak.  This something I should worry about and get repaired, or is it no
big deal?
Is repair expensive?  Will it mean the lens will never be the same?
whale of a time with 35mm22 Jul 2005 00:02 GMT36
Shot with a Canon 3000 using Kodak ISO 200 film, a Sigma 28 ~ 300 lens
and scanned several years later with a Nikon ED 5000 Coolscan.

I used Photoshop and Neat Image to de-noise the scan and then Ultra
Nikon Bellows Question(s)21 Jul 2005 19:11 GMT11
Will the newest bellows, the PB-6 do anything that the old PB-4 won't do?
Also, I read on one site that the intermediate PB-5 was a dumbed-down PB-4.
Is this really true?

DSLRs and Programmed Obsolescence21 Jul 2005 17:09 GMT74
This subject has come up in a few threads lately. The issue is -- what
is the lifespan of a DSLR? We know the lifespan of a film camera can be
very long indeed, but how long can a reasonable person expect a high
end DSLR to remain useful?
ethics of candid photography (beginner question)20 Jul 2005 23:45 GMT7
Is it okay to publish on the web (or anywhere else) pictures of people
that were taken without their awareness or consent? Does the distance
(and detail) of the subjects make a difference? Does it make a
difference how old the subjects are? Or the pose of the subjects
