| Why does 2x converter reduce brightness by 4x? | 01 Aug 2005 00:44 GMT | 15 |
I'm confused by something and would appreciate any assistance. Does doubling the focal length, while leaving the aperture unchanged, change my f# by a factor of 2? Does this imply a doubling/halving of irradiance, E?

No, I haven't lost my mind and it is definitely not OT. I'm trying to make a "lens cap" for the Sigma 14mm wide angle lens with the integral petal sunshade and I want something that fits over the whole thing snugly. I think I can take some sheet styrene of .005" or .010" and roll ...

| Canon 350D and 18-55, USM or not? | 31 Jul 2005 12:32 GMT | 1 |
I'm about to buy a 350D with 18-55mm lense but am not sure whether to go for the USM version or not. As far as I can tell the only way to get the USM version in the UK is in the silver body kit from Jessops for £700. Otherwise the non-USM is widely available for £600 upwards. Is

| [SI] New Mandate for 7/29/05 | 31 Jul 2005 01:05 GMT | 5 |
OK, enough of these difficult mandates. It's summer/winter, time to take it easy. The new mandate is "Local Geography." Take a shot of something in your area that typifies the local geography. We're a pretty diverse group, and I'd like to see a little something about where you ...

| Old Nikon manual downloads - sb-15 | 29 Jul 2005 12:41 GMT | 4 |
There seem to be sites that pop up occassionally that have pdf-scans of old nikon manuals. I got my FE manual at one of these a while back. I'm now looking for an sb-15 manual -- anyone have any pointers for me? I know the mir.com.my site, but that doesn't print very well, and, i

| Canon ef 28-105 and dark corners | 29 Jul 2005 06:23 GMT | 21 |
After a lot of reading in this newsgroup and in the sites that are mostly linked here (photo.net, photodo etc), I decided that the lens mentioned in the subject line would be good for me (3.5-4.5). I got lucky on ebay and bought one very cheap, less than one year old, and

| US Corporate Thuggery Against Photographer | 29 Jul 2005 03:05 GMT | 36 |
This is ridiculous, imagine you're out shooting pic's and you take a photograph that this or that corp. doesn't like and you end up being threatened with legal action. http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/1368F807-6F41-4C77-8785-EEFD71FAB4D4.htm

| Anyone tried a MC Rubinar 500/5.6 on a Nikon DSLR | 28 Jul 2005 23:33 GMT | 1 |
I've spent a few days going back and forth trying to find an answer to a fairly simple question -- What will it take to bolt a MC Rubinar 500/5.6 lens onto my Nikon DSLR? I've found a lot of scattered information through judicious googling,

| Best Canon telephoto for hand-holding | 28 Jul 2005 21:15 GMT | 7 |
I have a 350d and a EF70-200 4L, and love the quality of the shots I've taken with it. I want to be able to zoom-in more though, and hand-hold in low light, but I don't want to compromise too much on image quality. At first the EF75-300mm F4.0-5.6 IS sounded ideal, but
