I have always been interested in this field but know nothing about making
it come out right. During my brief partnership with the Leica M6 I shot a
roll to see just how badly out the meter is (pretty bad, I'm afraid and
the camera has gone back to the owner for him to have repaired) ...

Portra 800-2 vs Ektachrome P1600?10 May 2005 16:17 GMT9
I recently used new Portra 800 (pushed) at a theater performance,
and was surprised to find it performed better than NPZ pushed.
Bracketing all shots at 1600/2000/2500 and requesting development
with two stops push, there was sufficient density in the 2500 shots,
Film/digital: An odd concept...10 May 2005 12:41 GMT28
Talking to an owner of the 20D.  He said that his lenses all performed
better on the digital body because the sensor size was using only the
best part of the lens.  Looked at the MTF graphs for some of Canon's
lenses and they show a common fall-off towards the edge of the circle of

Just a snapshot of my dad from the '80s, sitting in one of his favorite
places-Caneel Bay (St. John, USVI). He died in 1997 following a long
illness, but thanks to the ton of snapshots I have, he's always there.

Yashica FX-2 shutter and focus problems09 May 2005 12:34 GMT11
Does any body here have a Yashica FX-2 SLR? It is a very old one.
I recently bought mine on ebay, and shot five rolls. The results were
quite suprising.
Firstly, the pictures seem totally out of focus, although I am pretty
Canon ef 400 f/5.609 May 2005 04:52 GMT1
Is there any rumour about this lens is no longer in production?  Thanks.
focal length and image size08 May 2005 23:56 GMT3
How is image size determined, if not by focal length? E.g. why does a
medium format lens of the same focal length have a different angle of
view than a 35 mm lens?
Thanks for any help.
When could cameras stop motion?08 May 2005 23:43 GMT18
>From my understanding, its not until 1871, with Maddox and the 'dry
plate' processing method, that motion could be frozen.
So even in 1870, one could not, say, take a photo of, say, a slow
moving bird in flight?
Canon 300mm f2.8 L Lens 08 May 2005 13:40 GMT2
On the Canon 300mm f2.8 L Lens there is a focusing ring with the typical
meter to infinity marks but there is also a second locking ring with similar
meter to infinity marks. How do you use this second ring?
My guess is that you lock it at a preset minimal distance so if there is ...

What is the Shadow area of a Subject ?08 May 2005 02:07 GMT8
Is the shadow area or part of a subject simply the
darkest part of the subject you select ?
For example when you are in the downtown areas
of many cities where there are dozens of tall buildings
The M6 has landed!07 May 2005 07:02 GMT58
I received it all this morning and have spent the better part of the day
fiddling and faffing with it. It's beautiful. Simply beautiful. I also
received about ten copies of the Leica quarterly magazine - only problem
is they are all in French! My French is merde!
