| Fast Lenses - Performance when stopped down? | 30 Mar 2005 17:45 GMT | 16 |
I understand the value of a fast lens in that more light is let in when the lens is wide open. However, is this the same when the lens is stopped down? i.e. if I have a 200mm f2.8 and a 200mm f4 and shoot a scene with both lenses at f5.6 do I get the same result or will the shutter ...

Hey Bret, does the 20D love the Masonic Lodge? I bet the Lodge don't love the 20D. Secret societies don't like cameras. So has the Lodge revealed any secrets or are you just a rookie? http://www.pbase.com/bret/lodge

| [SI] Bowser's Ugly Shot | 30 Mar 2005 15:47 GMT | 8 |
My pic is of Rt. 114 in Danvers, MA (USA). Yes, it is ugly sprawl, and compressed via a tele to increase that perception. This little highway is typical of the new "outdoor mall" style roads that seem to appear far too often. The result is a form of surburan blight that can ...

| Slik Master Deluxe Tripod | 30 Mar 2005 00:36 GMT | 6 |
I know, Slik doesn't have the best reputation today, but I must say, of all the equipment I was given by my father, all of which he bought in Japan in 1964-68, that tripod gets the most use, and a well built piece of kit it is. Mostly aluminum, with 3 sectioned legs that need to ...

| Canon Elan 7NE (un)availability at B&H | 30 Mar 2005 00:28 GMT | 3 |
I am planning to buy a Canon Elan 7NE. When I went to the B&H site to order one, the Elan 7NE page says: "Important Notice! This is not a regularly stocked item. Estimated arrival at B&H 7-14 business days. You will be charged upon placing your order." The camera was listed as

| Slave hotshoe question | 29 Mar 2005 23:16 GMT | 6 |
I have a couple optical hot-shoe slaves that work great - except on a particular brand of flash. Sigma EF-500 ST. Great on-camera flash units, but they won't fire every time when mounted on a slave. Any idea why not?

| equipment rentals | 29 Mar 2005 21:39 GMT | 5 |
Is is common to rent expensive equipment? For example, there's no way I can afford a sweet 600mm lens for my little Canon Rebel, but I'd sure like to shoot with one for a day or two. If it is common/possible, what might the rental rates be?

| Why face camera in incident metering? | 29 Mar 2005 19:50 GMT | 30 |
Why do you have to face the camera from the position of the subject in incident metering? you are measuring the light falling on the subject, not the light projecting to the camera, no? I can understant why you wouldn't have your back to the camera, because then you'd be measuring

| First roll of Velvia ASA 50 | 29 Mar 2005 13:32 GMT | 8 |
I have purchased my first roll of Velvia ASA 50 and am wondering without experimenting personally is ASA 50 the correct ASA to set my Minolta M Spotmeter for. Or is it something lower like perhaps

| how about tokina? | 29 Mar 2005 07:59 GMT | 5 |
http://www.warehouseexpress.com/ After a long debate over on ephotozine i think 2.8 lens would be nice. Especially if it has better than standard elements. Alot of tokina stuff was too cheap but a 2.8 lens in most lineups seem to be reassuringly
