Just wondering if the SI is still alive?? looking at http://www.aliasimages.com/si/rulz.html the current mandate (Symmetry) which is due this weekend hasn't appeared on there yet. As I write this it is now saturday evening and there still isn't a mandate for the coming fortnight. ...

I have used the harrow branch to print b&w from true b&w negatives, and have recieved back prints with grey not true b&w,they appear ok if printed high contrast. I e-mailed the watford branch which told me they use kodak royal paper,

Can anyone shed light on the myth that Tamron produce the (70-300 LD zoom) lens that Nikon market as their own (70-300mm ED). I want to buy one or the other but would appreciate your views as to whether image quality will differ much between the two.

Too late, but Leica could have used its lens expertise to sell high end lenses to Canon/Nikon competing against L lenses etc.. make a profit doing so while still able to service its Rangefinder folks. They had the name and the quality, leica lenses on Canon digital EOS bodies

I'm looking at the following specs of two Canon lenses and can't easily determine which lens will give me the largest magnification for macro type work (I realize a macro lens would be better). So - if I'm shooting a mantis which would yield the largest mantis head in print ...

How is the magnification calculated for lenses in terms of X-power? With 50mm focal length normal for 35mm (not considering crop factor on dslr), is 100mm 2X, 300 6X, etc.?
