Pack a Gun to Protect Valuables from Airline Theft or Loss?31 Jan 2010 13:35 GMT188
I am not qualified to comment on the practice advocated in this
article.  I just thought it was rather amusing, and figured someone in
one of these froups would beable to provide some insights.

Product shots and telecentric lenses31 Jan 2010 02:10 GMT7
Maybe product shots should be done using these kinds of lenses?  After
all, the distortion qualities of normal lenses are used to sell
product, to make it look different than it really does in real life.
Telecentric lenses don't distort the geometry of the image and thus
The creative language of Dpreview31 Jan 2010 02:02 GMT14
Repair or fix becomes "enhancement."  No mfg. ever has to fear
negative feedback from them.

Displaying stitched panorama photographs.31 Jan 2010 00:01 GMT10
Does anyone know of a program that will display Panoramic photos that
have been made from several normal photographs stitched together. I want
to be able to display a panorama at full screen width and have it slowly
pan across the screen.
Flickr question30 Jan 2010 17:51 GMT4
Suppose one has a photo displayed on Flickr.com.  The page with the
photo has a particular URL, that might be linked to by other webpages.
I see that Flickr lets you edit the description and title without
changing the URL; that's convenient.  But suppose I want to replace
Tripods have one major drawback30 Jan 2010 06:21 GMT41
They make you a target for the inquisitive.  So if you want to shoot
images in peace, don't use a tripod where people are.
Digital Camcorder recommendation?30 Jan 2010 06:21 GMT8
I am an amateur photographer and try to creat slide shows with the
photos.  Some of them did turn really good.  I want try and take videos
now.  I haven't owned a camcorder for 10 years now and the last one I
owned used 8mi (something like that) tapes.
Couple notes on EVFs, how to use them and what to expect30 Jan 2010 06:21 GMT68
"Peaking" and granularity in the image.
I first saw the term, "peaking" in a Michael Reichman column on
Leicas.  I'm not sure if there is another generic term, yet.  It
refers to the scintillation effect seen when an EVF comes into focus.
how can I take a clear snap of my baby in the room?30 Jan 2010 06:21 GMT29
I just bought Canon 500D with lens 18-55MM. I'm trying to take the snap to
my 8 months baby in the room, but for one thing, it's a little bit dark in
the room ,and on the other hand, my baby is always moving, so I just could
not success to take a clear and sharp pic for him.
Is Pentax a reasonable choice?30 Jan 2010 06:20 GMT65
I've been doing a lot of research on DSLRs, entry level and the next
step up, and on paper the best value appears to be the Pentax K-x.
$550 at Amazon for the kit.  The dpreview review was absolutely

Digital Projector for Photographs?30 Jan 2010 06:20 GMT19
Does anyone use and/or recommend any particular projector?
I have only recently migrated from 35mm to dSLR and, having taken 35mm
slides for most of my life am now missing the pleasure of viewing my
latest images on the large screen. ( I am enjoying the new found
Nikon not cleaning lenses of debris after machining?30 Jan 2010 06:20 GMT14
Pretty pathetic on a $2600 lens, I'd say.

Samsung's mirrorless APS "shot across the bow"30 Jan 2010 06:20 GMT23

Looking for SD card cases30 Jan 2010 06:20 GMT22
...not the "wallets" that hold several, but the tiny ones scarcely larger
than the cards themselves.  My local camera store sells plastic cases a
couple of inches long and at least a quarter of an inch thick that are
supposed to hold just one SD card, but you can usually cram two ...
