dpreview pixel density metric21 Jul 2008 17:26 GMT12
I just noticed that dpreview have finally added a pixel density metric
which could save some time when comparing cameras.
However they express it as pixels / cm^2.
I just wrote them a spot of feedback recommending that they do it as
Canon 40D and 5D vs. Nikon D40 and D30021 Jul 2008 13:56 GMT28
I am looking to get my first SLR camera (I have been using point and
shoot to this point) and was wondering what I should get.  I have been
reading numerous websites, but would like some info from people who
use these cameras.  I have read ken rockwell's website and noticed he
4x6 printing problem - cropped edges21 Jul 2008 10:06 GMT8
I have created a jpeg in photoshop (CS2) on a 4x6 canvas.  The image
has three two photos placed in the middle with a colored background.
The two photos (different layers) have equal spacing in between and
from the outside borders.  I tried printing this image at Costco,
Drowning in photos21 Jul 2008 01:32 GMT60
When shooting film I'm constrained by the fact that each shot costs a certain
amount of money.  When shooting digital, however, the cost of each shot is
nearly zero, and the tendency is to shoot and shoot.  So when I get home, I
end up with 400 shots to sort through, instead of 30 ...
Canon's Big Advantage Over Nikon19 Jul 2008 22:18 GMT35
It has come to my attention that NIkon has discontinued all (except 1)
of their medium zoom lenses that are reasonable priced leaving
themselves with a fine but expensive group of FX lenses plus some of the
less expensive DX lenses.
Spyder3Pro Problem19 Jul 2008 22:05 GMT11
I recently purchased a Spyder3. Installation and calibration went
smoothly.
However, I keep getting a slight green color cast after calibration.
This applies also to the images presented in the Spyder software for

I've been trying to find a one month WiFi package for the US (Southwest).
eg: I pay once and then get WiFi access where available w/o having to

A and D Mode - Lumix19 Jul 2008 09:02 GMT2
I'm not familiar with the highlighted icon in this image of a Lumix screen.

Am I missing something?  :)
Digital filter software. Best choices?18 Jul 2008 17:22 GMT2
Finally broke down and got a new computer and new PS3 and Lightroom
for working in digital photography. Any one have suggestions on the
add-on, after market software like NIK or AlienSkin or any others that
I could add to the Holiday gift lists?

Problems with digital camera batteries18 Jul 2008 13:47 GMT12
I hope this is the right NG to ask this question.  If it's wrong, then I
apologize.
I use a 4 pack of NIMH Hama batteries 1.2v/1850mAh in my Canon Power

HP R817/81818 Jul 2008 04:37 GMT1
My daughter dropped my HP R817. The lens mechanism gear train was
jammed, and although I did get it moving again, I stretched some tiny
springs in there and don't think it will be repairable. Does anybody
have one for sale? I already have the charging dock which allowed it to
What it's all come down to...18 Jul 2008 04:37 GMT20
Been a photographer since before the Nikon F Photomic T was the hottest

Planar, a few Contaflexes, a Leica RF, some Minoltas (SRT-101), a Miranda,
Olympus, and a few Canons, etc. plus I did the permanent ...
