Equivalent of "opening 1 or more stop" in post processing?31 Jul 2008 22:42 GMT3
In photoshop if you want to approximate the effect of increasing exposure by
1 or more stops, do you adjust the contrast alone, or gamma as well? If you
have to adjust gamma, then what is the formula?
Scanning Color Negative Film -- Nikon Coolscan, Mac31 Jul 2008 17:52 GMT11
Yes, I'm going back to some older images.
Scanning color negative film, mostly Vericolor VPS from 80's with Nikon
Super Coolscan V. Software is Nikon Scan 4 and VueScan (current ver).
Nikon Scan seems to do a fine job of scanning slides. The images are

The Joy of Pixel Density31 Jul 2008 04:52 GMT233
I've made a direct comparison of RAW data per unit of area in the deep
shadows of ISO 100 between the FZ50 (1.97 micron) and the 400D (5.7
micron).  Exposure is the same, same Av (f/4.5), same Tv (1/100), same real
focal length (22mm), both shot at "ISO 100" pushed to ISO 13,500. ...
help my old parish priest......anybody30 Jul 2008 23:36 GMT18
Hi folks. My elderly parish priest (again) gave me his camera to have a look
at it this morning. A NikonCoolpix 5700. He told me that it wasn't focusing
but the problem is much more serious I think. I got it sorted out focus wise
but the pictures all have numerous lines across them. ...
BenQ E1000. Is it a good camera? Or you can recommend something else?30 Jul 2008 20:55 GMT6
I just saw BenQ E1000 in one store. It has 10Mpixels, 3” display,
manual controls and 3 x optical zoom…
Can someone tell me is it a good camera?
Or you can recommend me something else for a similar price?
Best Digital Picture Frame30 Jul 2008 13:03 GMT12
I recently decided to get a digital picture frame. I ended up with the
pandigital 7" widescreen. The only real problem I have with it, is it
will not shut off via the on/off program while in slideshow mode. It
works fine and will shut off and on if I am viewing the calander or a
Nikon's New Wildlife Camera (P-Cam)30 Jul 2008 12:38 GMT7
Nikon does it again by introducing another new camera designed exclusively
for wildlife enthusiasts.  The new P-Cam has new ground breaking feature
that thrust it light years ahead of the competition.

Canon xsi30 Jul 2008 02:54 GMT13
After losing most of my film equipment in a burglary some years ago (2
Canon T-90s, one AE1-P w/motor drive, one AE-1, and assorted lenses/
flashes/accessories) I was never able to recoup the loss and so I fell
out of the occasional freelancing habit.
Catalogue software for +50.000 pictures (mac)30 Jul 2008 02:53 GMT1
I used to be quite happy with Photoshop Album, but it can't handle the
amount of photos that I have now. A friend told me that Photoshop
Album is based on an access database, which is not suitable for
handling more than 20.000 entries. So no wonder that it got really
Canon  Focus Screens30 Jul 2008 02:45 GMT6
Canon (and probably quite a few other camera manufacturers) offer
interchangeable focusing screens.  I have never experimented with different
focusing screens.  Has anyone had any experience of these on modern DSLR's?
The slowest lens I use is 2.8 (although I do sometimes shoot ...

Speed winners30 Jul 2008 01:49 GMT12
I am  probably in the market for a new digital camera and I wonder if
anyone knows the current winners in the following cases. There may be
technical terms but I do not know them.
1. The lowest time to being ready to take a picture after being switched

My friend bought a new USB card reader.  When she tries to access it
using Windows Explorer, she gets the following error:
