Flickr: What's the deal with the "You are ...'s newest contact"  emails?13 Jun 2008 04:24 GMT6
As a new Flickr user, I've gotten a few "You are ...'s newest contact"
messages and I've deleted them. I don't do "social networking".
I have a hard policy against unsolicited messages, in general.  It gets
deleted unless there is a damn good reason to read it.
Weight of Canon Rebel XSi and 18-55mm IS lens (& comparison to 40D)13 Jun 2008 01:58 GMT9
The weight of the XSi body is 475 g, as everybody knows (reported on
many web sites). But that is the weight of the body only, without lens
or battery.
The kit lens (18-55mm IS) weighs 200 g according to different web
THUNDERING HERD LOVES THE TOTALLY DIGITAL D60!12 Jun 2008 15:50 GMT18
Here's my favorite pic of the month (and maybe the year) so far...

I took this one today with the Totally Digital D60 Infrared as a big
storm approached.  The horses were just standing around when a loud

Camcorder review site?11 Jun 2008 19:50 GMT2
Not strictly relevant to this group perhaps, but does anybody know of a
web site reviewing camcorders, similar to dp review? I have searched but
have not found anything helpful.
Panasonic Lumix TZ411 Jun 2008 15:23 GMT4
Got an opportunity to pick up one at a real good price. Lately, I've been a
Canon man--- but that Leica lens is appealing. Most of the online reviews
give it pretty good marks. I'm not sure about the lack of a viewfinder
though-- despite it allegedly getting brighter outdoors in ...
Remote shutter trigger for compact cameras11 Jun 2008 07:59 GMT3
I'm looking for a compact camera with a remote shutter trigger, cabled or
wireless, but it seems a remote shutter exist only for reflex or old
cameras. Here is a do-it-yourself cabled device:

UV filter for Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX ED VR10 Jun 2008 19:16 GMT8
I am wondering what kind of B+W filter I need for the Nikon 16-85mm
f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX ED VR.  This lens has 67mm front thread but with the wide
angle, I would say the Slim version of the B+W 67mm UV (MRC) be the best
choice. The Slim version has no front thread. which probably ...
Bias value of Canon DSLRs?!10 Jun 2008 08:24 GMT16
Hi ng,
does anyone know how large the bias or offset is that Canon applies to
its DSLRs in order not to clipp negative voltage fluctuations to zero?
I read it must be subtracted from the average raw value of an image in
How do image sizes compare to picture sizes?10 Jun 2008 07:13 GMT8
Recently, I bought myself a Kodak digital camera, capable of 7
megapixels.  Of course, if I used that all the time I'd end up with a
small number of Very Big Pictures.  Much of what I want this camera for
is for sending to friends, putting up on a website and so on, so there's

shrinking foto collection09 Jun 2008 22:00 GMT15
I have about 20000 photos (mixture of  jpeg and  tiff).  They are in  about
20 folders, sub folders and sub sub folders.  Is there a way to convert them
all to about 75-150kb, from the 1.2 - 6MB that they currently are?
Not bragging09 Jun 2008 01:57 GMT22
This is not a photograph that I'm bragging about as an example of fine
photography, but the subject is something I've never seen before:  a
Sandhill Crane sitting down.
