DOF preview in OVFs of DSLRs is crippled22 Jun 2008 13:00 GMT70

dslr-viewfinder/
See the two images of the chessboard. Apparently because of the
compromises in the OVFs of DSLRs you see more DOF than you really get.
seeing camera's lcd screen in bright sun22 Jun 2008 00:07 GMT2
Last week I had trouble using the Fuji A820 digital camera in the
bright sun because the lcd screen's image was virtually impossible to
see in the sun.
Is there any accessory that would enable using lcd screen in the
Canon flashgun22 Jun 2008 00:04 GMT2
I have a Canon EOS 400D, and I want to get a flashgun. Which is considered
the best buy? I mainly take portrait pictures, and close-up animal studies
outside.
TIA
Opera and internet photography collectors21 Jun 2008 22:51 GMT1
Opera has eleased version 9.50 with a significant change that royally
screws some photography collectors.
Many collectors  select internet photos from the Opera cache, copy
them to a new directory, and then look at the directory thumbnails
Stupid Safety Question About Photograghing Sunsets21 Jun 2008 18:53 GMT10
I bought a Nikon Coolpix L11 a while back and I'm very happy with it.

What I'd like to know:
Is it safe to look directly at the sun through the LCD viewing screen
Calculation of snr21 Jun 2008 17:52 GMT127
Hi ng,
I´d like to know about the signal to noise ratio of my digital camera.
According to a website I found this value is the ratio of total signal
to total noise expressed in decibels (dB) and can be calculated with

DNG and compression21 Jun 2008 05:18 GMT10
I thought that DNG files were always compressed, but just learned that
DNGs of the Pentax K20D and Samsung K20D are not compressed. Can they be
compressed with the Adobe DNG converter?
Canon 40D vs Canon 450D (XSi)21 Jun 2008 05:07 GMT14
Using the same lens; lets say the 18-85mm IS Canon lens.
Forget about weight and durability.
Which will produce the best image quality or would they be about the same?
What are the advantages of the 450D other than a cheaper price which is
BIG MOUTHS LOVE THE 5D!21 Jun 2008 02:32 GMT1
It was a sad day today as I scrambled to take a few last pics with the
5D before packing it up and sending it back to rentglass.com.
Highly recommended!

NX2 trial21 Jun 2008 00:06 GMT2
Am I missing something here? Probably, but for what little its worth:
NX2 lacks the control point system of NX1, the raison d'etre for NX.  It
appears to be a crippled version of NX. Is NX2 intended to be packaged with
Nikon dSLRs? I don't see much use for it otherwise.
light weight travel tripod for sub compact camera?21 Jun 2008 00:03 GMT16
I' traveling and am looking for a light weight tripod for a sub compact
(pocketable) camera like the canon elph. I already have a slick U6000 tripod
weighting 2.5 lb. It is overkill to support such a small camera.
Is there something under 1.5 lb? I need one to take long exposure ...
Editing Video Movies from Canon Camera20 Jun 2008 20:43 GMT4
I have a Canon A560.  I have finally mastered the movie or video mode.
The first one I made I did not shut it off when I finished, so I have
30 seconds of the ground and my foot at the end.  Is there some
software I can download to edit these videos and remove the junk at
What are the .THM files for?20 Jun 2008 20:38 GMT6
When I take a movie with my Canon A560, it creates the actual movie
which is a .AVI file.  But it also creates a .THM file.  I did a test
and the movie plays without the .THM file.  What are the .THM files
for?
