I may be buying a DSLR from a friend.  Right now, I have a not-compact

(1) My camera (Canon S2 IS) doesn't come with a shoe. It can take very
good video in good light conditions, but the quality deteriorates
quickly with the light.
(2) My camcorder doesn't have builti-in video light, but came with a

Folks,
I found a website yesterday that showed a method of enabling a RAW image output
mode in some older Nikon Coolpix Compact cameras.  
Has anyone here done this?

My wife's Fuji S700 (don't laugh, it's good enough for what she does)
saves the pics on the card in such a way that Windows won't recognise
them, so I can't use a cardreader.  The god-awful software that came
in the box works, but it's slow, doesn't allow for image deletion on
