Tea Vui Huang's HD Photo Scribbler
Microsoft's HD Photo format (formerly known as Windows Media Photo)
has been adopted as the new JPEG-XR standard. With Tea Vui Huang's HD
Photo Scribbler, you can now create and customise kaleidoscopes, as
AttributeMagic Pro vs exiftool21 Feb 2008 03:14 GMT2
Still troubling with my PS3 not reading the date of my photos¨
and discovered something very strange. Anyone seen this:
It seems like even though Attribute Magic Pro writes the date tags for
the photo part (alle three EXIF dates), my PS3 doesn't find them.

200/f2 vs. 70-200/f2.820 Feb 2008 15:23 GMT75
I was at some youth hockey games this past weekend, and the official
photographers had four lights on each ice surface, tied to Pocket
Wizards. I used my 70-200 f/2.8 and I got tons of really good pictures
at f/8, ISO 400, 1/250. I could easily have gone down to f/5.6.

My office has about 50 years of aerial photos on 10"x10"
transparencies.  I am not interested in converting all transparencies
to a digital format, but often we get requests for a specific

how to deal with dead pixels19 Feb 2008 16:39 GMT9
I just noticed that my Canon A520 seems to have developed a dead pixel.
It appears it started to 'die' around a month ago. Now in every dark
picture, that one pixel comes out to be bright red.
What are the various methods to deal with such dead pixels other than
Holy Crap! Has this ever happened to you?19 Feb 2008 12:41 GMT9
A man attacked the photographer.
I've often wandered if I would get in trouble and if something like this
might happen when doing street photography. So far, nothing though.

Nikon D40/D40x + night lens ?19 Feb 2008 11:19 GMT32
I am thinking about buying a small dSLR such as Nikon D40 or D40x. My
main interest is to take pictures of landscapes at low light. Thus, I
am looking for a rather short focal length lens. I want to have a
fixed focal length. The aperture should be 1/1.4 or 1/1.8. I want the

For now, it just opening up the camera, and replacing the battery box.
Later, I plan to open the lens assembly, and try to repair that too.

Repair19 Feb 2008 03:12 GMT8
I have a Sony DSC-717 that no longer works. The camera does not turn
on. More specifically it turns on and then immediately turns off. I
have middling technical skills. Is there a reasonable chance that I
can fix it? Are there schematics or some such available? Or do I just
