DVD+R vs DVD - R23 Feb 2008 06:47 GMT50
I was told by a salesman that the 50 packs of TDK DVD+Rs are $20
dearer than 50 packs of DVD-Rs because the DVD+Rs are  intended for
archival use whereas the DVD-Rs are for recording things like TV
shows. This is not what I've been told about the difference in the
Image software23 Feb 2008 06:47 GMT22
Just wondered which image software people use to process their digital
photos. I know about Photoshop but can't afford it - is there a
cheaper alternative which does a more limited set of functions and is
cheap(er)?
temperature measurement23 Feb 2008 02:03 GMT14
Suppose I have a digital camera and an vacuum tube and I want to use the
camera to measure the filament temperature of the tube by studying a
digital photograph of the filament, saved as a computer file.
Is that possible and, if so, how?

I'm looking for a good small pocket camera, (not the SLR style)which will take
good crisp reasonably hi resolution stage shots of shows.
Naturally good portrait shots as well.
Another concern is battery charging (I like the usb + power idea) good size

Ink levels22 Feb 2008 17:41 GMT3
Received this from an HP tech regarding the Deskjet 3425:
In windows Vista the printer drivers are inbuilt which are basic
printer drivers. To check the ink levels,  Full Featured drivers need
to install on the computer. In Vista, there is no download drivers and
Digital camera advice22 Feb 2008 13:42 GMT5
I'm looking to buy a new digital camera.I want a compact one with image
stabilization and about 8mp.  There are so many on the market and the more I
look the more I get confused so I was wondering if anyone could reccommend a
couple for me under the £200 mark.  I like the Sony ...
Always shoot at highest megapixel setting?22 Feb 2008 11:06 GMT30
Does a typical digital camera, regardless of user setting for target
MP, capture all the data required to produce its highest MP image and
then interpret the result to produce the smaller MP?
Or does the camera turn off sensors to directly produce an image with
Eclipse time-lapse21 Feb 2008 20:22 GMT2
I used my D300's intervalometer and spliced the pictures together with
Windows Movie Maker. Unfortunately, right now it's pretty blotchy - I'm
going to find a better tool and redo it.

on the type II as my Canon Supershot S20 accepts both Type
Editing the fields in properties/summary (Title, Author, Comments etc)21 Feb 2008 15:01 GMT1
Right, I don't know what this information is called.  So much for looking in
Windows Help ... it tells you things like how to add a comment (which I knew
anyway) but nothing about the terminology and what these fields are called.
These are the fields you see when you select ...
Backfocus21 Feb 2008 12:20 GMT59
Because I was seeing some shots I thought were a little fuzzy at my
focus point, using the focus charts available online I just tested the
focus of my Nikon 18-200 VR AF-S DX zoom lens on a D200.  Turns out it
has about 10mm backfocus.  Using the same setup I tested my Sigma
