Question about the Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens22 Oct 2007 17:48 GMT26
I'm coming close to the point where I'll be able to buy an EOS-5D.
I really love macro shots of small subjects such as insects.
Using The Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro lens, would I be able to fill the
entire image with a .25 inch (1/4 inch)

A friend called a while ago.  He's having a bad day.  He finally
decided to network his macs so they can share the huge hard drives he
uses for desktop publishing and video editing.  He can't get things up
and running so he called me for some advice.

CHDK Successfully Ported to Canon G7 Firmware v1.00g22 Oct 2007 14:42 GMT68
Hot off the presses:
CHDK has just been successfully compiled for the Canon Powershot G7, firmware
version 1.00g. Adding one more Digic III camera to the collection of cameras now
supported by CHDK (previously ported to the G7 fw v1.00i, and many other Digic
Need a new photo printer22 Oct 2007 13:30 GMT29
I need a new photo printer for home.  I'd like to know
your experience with newer printers.
I would like to make prints up to 13x19 (ideally 16x20),
with long life.
Michael Reichmann reasoning for AA filters?22 Oct 2007 10:10 GMT29
Okay, does this make any sense: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/MKIIIs.shtml
M. Reichmann says that DSLRs have AA filters to save compute power
needed in demoscaicing  Bayer pattern sensors whereas medium format
backs do not have AA filters because they do not need to ...
Labs: prints the size & ratio of D-70 Image22 Oct 2007 03:29 GMT4
Does anyone know of a lab that makes prints the size and aspect ratio
of the image from the D70, and not just the standard film camera
ratios, such as 5 x 7, 8 x 10, 16 x 20, etc.?
If I look at my image in Photoshop as a .psd, it shows 12.53 in x 8.33
Best Image Settings22 Oct 2007 01:37 GMT15
My wife just bought a 7.1 MP Canon SD1000.  She really likes it. Her previous
Canon, a 4 MP, set on the highest resolution and Super Fine yields an image
file size of around 1 MB. The new camera, on the highest setting of 3,072
resolution and "Super Fine" yields an image size ...

non-photographic object sources21 Oct 2007 22:01 GMT1
Is there any (earthly) daytime object which a digital camera struggles
to take a clean picture of?
Presumably the sun is difficult to phtograph, but i'm interested in
objects that are photographed with lenses over a 100 meter distance?
New Sony DHC-H3 camera21 Oct 2007 17:21 GMT1
In the past week, I saw that this new model came out to the stores
near my place. It is a surprisingly nice, compact camera. I tried it
at the store and it has excellent picture quality. The price is very
reasonable, and perhaps is aimed at competing with Nikon P5100 or even
lost images21 Oct 2007 13:08 GMT5
Hi folks, I wrote a few weeks ago about how a friend had accidentally
formatted his SD card and subsequently lost all the pictures he had taken on
holiday in the Bahamas (a once in a lifetime holiday as we live in Ireland).
I got loads of helpful suggestions and a variety of ...

battery power20 Oct 2007 20:51 GMT12
Anybody know anything about typical internal power circuits on digital
cameras? An alkaline battery only lasts 4 days or about 20 photos on
the el-cheapo keychain digital camera I carry on my belt for an
impromtu daily photo jounal. I've checked the problem batteries with a
