| CHDK/ a630; raw not happening? | 05 Oct 2007 12:56 GMT | 1 |
I've put the software of my SD card, installed it at camera startup, and am seeing all menus. The RAW menu is set to "on" (or at least "blob in square brackets", as opposed no no blob).

| finepix f31fd and waterproof case | 05 Oct 2007 08:34 GMT | 3 |
I'm thinking of buying a FINEPIX F31FD and the FXF30 waterproof casing for it as I want to take it on a boating trip and there will be a lot of water splashing about. It's been used once and I am asked to pay £190 for the lot which seems a bargain.

| CHDK and very long exposure | 04 Oct 2007 21:52 GMT | 4 |
Is it possible to use the CHDK to make a Canon Powershot S3 IS take a picture with an exposure time of half an hour? Having to write a custom script would not be a problem.

| DNGF vs TIF | 04 Oct 2007 21:21 GMT | 24 |
I have been saving my digital photos in TIF for the main archive copy because of the potential for damage to files saved as JPG, which I have been mostly shooting in. I have started shooting mostly RAW and making a DNG copy for archiving. I was wondering if as DNG is also a

| Viewing Photos in Internet Explorer Different to Windows Photo Gallery | 04 Oct 2007 20:50 GMT | 8 |
I have an 8 bit, sRGB, JPEG image (that I converted in Photoshop from a 16 bit, Nikon sRGB, TIFF image, which I scanned using a Nikon 35mm negative scanner). When I open it in Internet Explorer 7, it looks exactly like it should.

| EU never tires of the financial rape of the people of Europe | 04 Oct 2007 17:55 GMT | 3 |
Do you people ever protest these kinds of things? Or, do you think "mother state" knows best, all the time?? The CIPA (Camera & Imaging Products Association) has today released a statement on the recent re-classification of certain digital cameras

| "Ratcheting Sound in PowerShot S3 IS?" | 04 Oct 2007 12:39 GMT | 2 |
For about the last week every time I turn my PowerShot S3 IS off and on I hear a distinct ratcheting sound. This occurs as the lens goes out and in. The camera was new in June 2006. Has anyone else ever had this happen? Any suggestions for a solution are appreciated.

| How big do you scan a 35 mm original? | 03 Oct 2007 16:32 GMT | 25 |
The thread where I started out to explain why pixel dimensions are meaningful to me while dpi is not made me question my (amateur) scanning technique. Have I been missing some quality by not scanning at a higher resolution on my inexpensive desktop scanner?

| Canon SX-100is 0-Day Impressions | 03 Oct 2007 15:12 GMT | 1 |
Well, they had them at Sam's Club today for $300... I bought one! Its a tiny 10x zoom 8MP image stabilized camera with full manual controls. I require a camera that rides in a belt pouch and this seems to be the best one yet.

| Trouble Focusing Stars and Planets | 03 Oct 2007 15:02 GMT | 14 |
I don't see very well, and night shots of any sort are extremely difficult for me to focus manually. Even my best efforts to focus on the night sky usually results in stars and planets appearing as fuzzy balls of light, instead of pinpoints. Does anyone have any suggestions
