Small Digital Camera Recommendations - i.e. Canon SD950IS16 Oct 2007 11:36 GMT2
Does anyone have some recommendations for a small digital camera like a

Any other cameras I should consider? I prefer Canon if possible.

contrast in p&s digital cameras vs film16 Oct 2007 08:41 GMT23
I was wondering if anybody can comment on the quality of contrast in the
pictures taken with a point and shoot digital camera compared to the one
obtained on 35mm film.
I have seen pictures from Canon A520 and a few older models. I can
How to read RAW files from Panasonic DMC-FZ8 in Irfanview and Elements 2 ?16 Oct 2007 00:53 GMT13
Just bought a Panasonic DMC-FZ8 and am very pleased with it.  It outputs jpg
images in two compression levels but doesn't state what level the best is
(7M pixels translate into a 3Mb file).
So I thought I would experiment with RAW files.  But cannot view them using

...pixels equivalent from negatives ?15 Oct 2007 13:51 GMT16
Pixel equivalent from negative...  is there any consistent way to
calculate such ?
For instance... if we have a 35mm negative... or 120... or whatever...
how much "pixel power" does any such negative contain, relative

Starfields from "bulb" and RAW?15 Oct 2007 10:05 GMT24
Good day, and thanks in advance for all help.
Can someone either confirm or refute an asumption that a digital camera
(7MP and 8MP) can capture starlight in a widefield shot using the camera's
"bulb" shutter setting and RAW image format?
Canon PowerShot S3 IS?15 Oct 2007 09:43 GMT29
Camera gets good reviews.  Have an opportunity to buy a new one at
$175.  Is this being discontinued and not considered a great deal with
newer cameras such as the S5 out, or is it still a solid camera if I
like the features?  (which I do, except for no optical viewfinder and
Sony Cybershot DSC-W55 fails to turn on15 Oct 2007 04:40 GMT1
My Sony Cybershot DSC-W55 camera seems to be struck with the lens projecting
outside. When I turn it on, it says 'Access' for a few seconds and then it
says "Turn the power off and on again". The camera is just 4 months old.
Thanks for any help.

Please recommend optimum settings for concert photos15 Oct 2007 03:37 GMT4
I've just gotten a Kodak Z812 and am very impressed by the photos I've
taken in the house under low light level conditions.  I've taken these in
the "smart scene" mode.  There's also an "high ISO mode" which is
recommended for low light situations.  Is this the best mode to use for ...
Shooting a live concert15 Oct 2007 01:38 GMT4
I haven't done this before, but I'm going to try to get pictures at a
club this week. I'm sure some of you have done this before, so my
question is: if I have to stick to one lens with a D200, should I choose
a fast wide-angle (30/1.4) or a slower zoom (18-200/3.5-5.6 VR)? (I'll
