Browser/Viewer for RAW (NEF) Files25 Sep 2007 06:07 GMT17
As a newbie to RAW workflow, I purchased Nikon's CaptureNX software
based upon it's editing capabilities.
Now that my library of Nikon Raw (NEF) files is growing, I see that the
browsing capability of this software is painfully S-L-O-W.  So, now I'm
D40 ticking, balking25 Sep 2007 01:56 GMT21
(I am new to both DSLRs and rec.photo.digital. Please don't hurt me.)
I have a Nikon D40 that I'm just learning how to use. A few times I've
run into an odd problem that I can't figure out: I'll try to take a
photo and the camera will make a quiet, fast ticking sound, and not take
Sony CycleEnergy the same as Sanyon Eneloop?25 Sep 2007 01:35 GMT7
Saw them at a Fry's Electronics.  $11.99 for a 4-pk of AA or AAA,
which was $1 less than they had the Sanyo Eneloops.  The had the same
rated capacity, looked to be the same, and touted the same low self-
discharge properties.  I know most of the Sony NiMH batteries are just

Is it my card reader, Miss Jones?24 Sep 2007 16:53 GMT28
I finally joined the Dark Side in April, switching from my beloved 1n
to a 5D. Nice camera, if all you have to do is shoot with it. I can't
believe the insane amount of time it takes to do anything with what
I've shot. 10,000 images and five months later most of it is still
Power related problem in Sony digicam24 Sep 2007 15:41 GMT2
I own a DSC-P52 Sony digital camera which runs on 2 standard alkaline
AA batteries. I put in two new batteries in the camera. The camera
powered up and showed full charge. But within a few clicks and 5-7
mins later, the camera shut down as if there was no juice left in the
Why would I want to turn IS off?24 Sep 2007 09:20 GMT8
My Canon A570 IS has a menu option to turn image stabilization off. Is
there some tradeoff or downside to just leaving it on all the time?
Is there some circumstance where it's best to turn IS off?

Nikon 18-200mm VR lens focus problem24 Sep 2007 00:58 GMT17
I experienced a focusing problem with my AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm lens coupled with a Nikon D200 camera and I'd like to poll others on this issue. I was taking landscape photos into a canyon and noticed that the camera was unable to focus accurately within the focal range ...
