For General Purpose

When 50% downsampling digital camera images with 2x1 chroma subsampling,
(for sending a CD to friends) should I use 1x1 or 2x1 chroma subsampling?
Theoretically it seems like there is enough color information for 1x1,
but I've never done any side-by-side comparisons.

My daughter has an older windoz machine and a new Nikon D40.
She needs an application for downloading her photos so she can sort them
for filing and later "management" by something like Elements.  
I use Mac so am of no help.

Several dealers in Uk are not able currently to supply the above camera and
UKDigital are showing it as discontinued.
Has anyone heard anything about a possible upgrading, and if so what are the
new specs?

I would like to know if a Canon D60 vertical grip will work on a 40D.

I have been looking at a new digital camera and I noticed that it
outputs movies in a NTSC format.  Which causes me to wonder if I
download that file to my PC via USB what is the format on my computer
?.  What if I make a CD or DVD from my computer again I not sure what
