software that removes redeyes automatically12 Jul 2007 16:04 GMT2
I have been doing some search on software that remove redeyes. I found
some tools authors claimed as  "automatic" are actually not automatic
at all. One nice tool I recently found is Redeye AutoRemover from
Bellence. I've tried about 20 photos I have with redeyes and it
Hirise Mars mission - full well, gamma?12 Jul 2007 11:25 GMT6
I'm looking at what people write about the Mars caverns, and can't
make head or tail of what they say...  E.g.:
What's amazing is that we cannot see any detail in the shadow
is "stretched" to best see the darkest area, yet we still cannot see
nothing new in the world of digital photography12 Jul 2007 10:15 GMT20
I have not been on this newsgroup for a month. Nothing interesting was
happening. I recently checked dpreview.com -- nothing interesting
there either. No new cameras. Same old stuff only slightly rehashed.

Greetings! Which is the sharpest shirt pocketable camera  available

Tripod mounting question12 Jul 2007 02:53 GMT10
Many pan/tilt heads and quick release mounts have a sprung pin an inch or so
from the mounting screw. I've yet to see a camera base with a mating hole,
so what is the pin for (apart from scratching the paint off my camera)?
Maybe it's just a pro camera thing?
Sharp Photo?12 Jul 2007 02:53 GMT25
If you have a photo that is sharp, to what level of magnification should you
be able to look at that image while it still looks sharp?
I hav looked at a lot of images and they loose their sharpness (assuming
they were sharp to begin with!)after 50% in photoshop.

false color technique?12 Jul 2007 01:17 GMT5
I recall seeing a website somewhere in cyberspace that described a sort
of digital multiple exposure technique that involved taking 3 shots of
the same scene (IIRC the example involved some moving water). One then
took the three images into Photoshop or whatever and made one of ...
Canon G7 - pinkish tint on LCD during picture taking12 Jul 2007 01:14 GMT6
In some occasion, and at a very instantaneous moment, I notice that
the LCD has a slightly pinkish tint when you click the shutter button.
Is this normal ?  The result is perfectly normal, and therefore only
showing in the LCD screen.
RAW On The 400d12 Jul 2007 01:12 GMT4
When shooting in RAW on the 400d and then bringing the images into ACR, is
it true that none of the in camera settings will be applied, e.g. no
Sharpness adjustments and no saturation or contrast adjustments - even if
the selected picture style is not neutral.

though this is not imperative.

Panasonic Lumix FZ20 w/ Manual Ext. Flash11 Jul 2007 19:55 GMT4
On a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 in M manual setting, how do you override
the dimming "feature" on the viewfinder?
In manual mode, my FZ20 dims the viewfinder if you are way under
exposed.  I guess this is intended to tell that user that the picture
Bokeh and Aperture Shape11 Jul 2007 16:50 GMT7
Just watched Die Hard 4 and I noticed that the Bokeh in the close-up shots
looked a bit unattractive, particularly with light sources in the
background.  Look like 8 blade apertures, but not smooth edges.  Very
distinctive shape.
