All About RAW

(Note: "RAW" must always be capitalized to show the appropriate
reverence.  Unbelievers may claim it's not an acronym or even a file
Image processing engines in digital cameras05 Jun 2007 23:14 GMT13
I wonder of anyone can provide discussion (which may end up to be
technical) on the various image processing engines for some digital
cameras. The Canon has the Digic III, the Lumix has Venus III, and the
Sony has Bionz engine. What about for Nikon cameras?  I know that a
Filename protocol05 Jun 2007 19:26 GMT9
I recently took about 700 pictures with my Canon 20D using a single 2Gig
card.
When I uploaded the files to my computer I noticed that some file names
were of the type _MG_1242.JPG while some others were something like
World's Largest Sensor Dust Particle!05 Jun 2007 18:56 GMT5
OK, I challenge anyone to show an image with a bigger, more distracting
hunk of crap on the sensor than this:

Of course, it might not be a dust spot after all. It might be final
Should a newbie start shooting RAW?05 Jun 2007 18:03 GMT126
Although I'm totally a newbie to SLRs, I just purchased a Nikon D70S. So
far, I can't quite figure out whether I should start using RAW format
right away, or if this may cause some extra work and/or confusion. For
photo editing I'm using PE5 and ACDSee 9.
Help needed05 Jun 2007 17:33 GMT1
I just started this potographic database with few friends and we
really would like to have some help to get this going. We seriously
believe that this can be an interesting site.
The site collects photos of normal street scenes from all over the
To A Profitable Part Time Digital Photography Income05 Jun 2007 13:44 GMT1
To have photo money start rolling in, there's no need to be Ansel
Adams. You just need to be competent. The mere fact that you've
considered starting a photography career - and you have, or you
wouldn't be reading this - says that you more than likely have all the
tiff or bmap file format for quality05 Jun 2007 13:20 GMT3
When I plug my casio exilim into my pc it saves the photos to the desk top
as Jpeg files.  I have been told that  jpeg reduces the quality of the
photo, and it should be in photoshop file, or tif or bitmap, for maximum
quality.
To the HDR gurus05 Jun 2007 06:26 GMT1
How much success have you had using Bridge and CS2?  Even on a _very_
stable tripod at speeds ranging from 200 - 800 over four or five
stops, all of my images are coming out blurry and unusable when merged
to HDR.  The Local Adaptation curves/histogram in CS2 makes the image
It's wrong to have an obese American Idol05 Jun 2007 05:36 GMT44
What kind of message are we sending to the children that that kind of
person can be a pop idol in the United States of America?
Okay check it out yo. The rule for next year is that if a female wins
American Idol she shouldn't be capable of bench pressing Ryan
SLR humidity camping05 Jun 2007 00:29 GMT3
I'm off camping for 5 weeks.  The temperatures and humidity level will
change  quite dramatically  from day to night.  My tent is really small and
it gets  quite damp during the night. I really have no idea what to do with
my brand new D80.  Should I put it in a plastic bag ...
past movie mode04 Jun 2007 23:27 GMT11
On an old 1MP Casio camera I have, there is a nice feature that lets
you capture a movie in a special
'past movie mode'. Does anyone know of any more modern (digital)
photocameras or camcorders that have this feature? So you can record
on-camera flash for canon04 Jun 2007 23:17 GMT4
I recently got a Canon 1DsMKII and the results are somewhat
disappointing when using flash whether full or fill.  The shots
typically come out "blasted", just too much light.   The flash units
that Ive tried are older non-dedicated except for one:
panorama mode and stitching with digital rebel xti04 Jun 2007 17:38 GMT10
The title says it all, I guess. Just to elaborate. I just got this
camera and have been playing around with it a bit. I was wondering if
anyone has done panorama pictures with the camera. I didnt see a mode
on it like my little digital elph had. So, if you did do the panorama,
Uploading to WinXP different than to Win2K04 Jun 2007 16:47 GMT11
We just upgraded our computers from Win2K to WinXP. I have a Nikon
CoolPix S3. On Win2K, I just put the camera in the cradle and plugged
in the USB cable and the camera appeared as another drive (E, F,
etc.). From there, I cold copy the photos wherever I needed.
