I'm not sure if this is the best group to ask this question, so please feel
free to send me elsewhere.
I am new to digital photography, and am trying to print photos via my pc. I
have a new Vista pc and a big (19") monitor, plus an old but decent printer

What are some freewares that can batch convert canon raw (CR2) into jpeg?
The jpeg are used as proofs, so the conversion doesn't have to be very
sophisticated.
Since there may be more than one software capable of doing this, any

First DSLR feedback sought15 Jun 2007 04:46 GMT13
I'm looking to move from a P&S (Kodak) to a DSLR. 23 years ago, I bought
and enjoyed using my Pentax ME Super, along with its 50mm prime and
28/80mm zoom lenses (but now it's just another piece of obsolete film
technology). The reason I mention the Pentax is that it's my only real
30 FPS, 4 or 5 Megs?15 Jun 2007 03:30 GMT14
Anybody know how close we are to full-motion video via continuous
snapshots - like 4 megs per shot at 30 shots per second?
Seems like storage is approaching the point where it could be
realistic.
1D Mk III "ERROR 99" (For Christ's Sake Already!!!)15 Jun 2007 02:12 GMT2
Maybe the dSLR gods are looking after me by not letting me beta test the
old Mk III.  This sucks!  I'm sure this will slow future shipments?  After
reading through all the messages it seems there are a host of other error
messages and problems.
Canon 350D San Disk Ultra II & III write speed difference15 Jun 2007 00:45 GMT2

Wondering if anyone here who responded to my post/thread "Canon--
Trying to Understand" could guess what happened that "accidentally"
solved the problem.
Several people who responded pointed out the focus restrictions of the

canon 30d: AF assist lamp14 Jun 2007 19:40 GMT15
I'm on travel and can't figure out how to get the 30D
AF assist lamp to stay off for night shots.
I turn the custom function that enables the AF assist
lamp to off (says something about flash).  I'm not using
Canon--Trying to Understand14 Jun 2007 19:06 GMT17
I want to be able to contact the right people involved in cameras
under warranty.  The situation I have has shown me that to contact the
Repair Department will be an exercise in futility.  I also need to
understand what if anything I'm doing wrong.
Video camera -vs- digital camera with video function14 Jun 2007 18:59 GMT4
Please excuse my ignorance, but what is the main difference between these a
video camera and a digital camera that has a video function?
I'm looking to buy some kind of camera with which to videotape myself
talking, in order to assess my body language and so on.  I'm not sure which
NIKON PRODUCTS CAUSE BIRTH DEFECTS14 Jun 2007 18:51 GMT17
You should be warned, don't buy the Nikon  MC-DC1 remote cord because
"handling the cord on this product will expose you to lead, a chemical known
to the State of California  to cause birth defects..."
which is what it says on the accompanying leaflet.  Thats just their remote

This was on Digg this morning, so many of you might have seen it:

but I'm surprised no one has mentioned it here.
It's not often a Micros**t technology demonstration draws gasps of
