Backing Up To External Hard Drive25 Apr 2007 17:48 GMT17
I am planning to back up all my photos to an external hard drive.  The first
time I back up, it will obviously be a big one, as there will be about
400-500GB of data to transfer.  The question is, will I have to back up the
whole lot every time, or is there a way to just transfer ...

Doctor's choice - Kodak C875 or Canon A630?25 Apr 2007 17:23 GMT33
Both are 8MP, both have 2.5-inch LCD's with so-so 115K pixel quality.
C875 has a 5X Schneider lens (Canon has 4X). Canon has the vari-angle
LCD. Canon uses 4 AA's, Kodak uses 2.
Both of these are candidates for riding in my pocket for everyday
Looking ahead after Virginia Tech25 Apr 2007 17:18 GMT38
The death of 33 people at the VT incident left the whole world in
shock and disgust, as the media repeatedly show footage of Cho's video
tapes. How will this affect the world from now on? Will we learn to
prevent such incidents, or will others learn to repeat them? People

RAW & best jpg appear identical on Sony DSC-R125 Apr 2007 07:30 GMT21
I see no reason in principle why a high quality jpg should not be as
good as a RAW file, but the conventional wisdom seems to be that RAW
files have the ultimate edge on fine detail. So having been impressed
by the image quality of the highest resolution jpg images from my Sony
canon 5d shutter activations25 Apr 2007 06:48 GMT19
I wonder if anyone could tell me how to determine the number of shutter
activations on my camera.  (I bought it used) and am curious.  I understand
its in the exif data but I have tried various software but I am unable to
determine the number.

How to set exposure for split-neutral density filter?25 Apr 2007 04:23 GMT8
Got a question I'm having trouble coming up with an answer for. Trying to
spend less time in Photoshop to fix picture exposure when shooting pics that
have a goodly amount of sky along with ground level detail I've seen
mentioned to use a split-neutral density filter on the camera ...
Is this a good deal?25 Apr 2007 03:58 GMT7

having second thoughts about taking this ad seriously.

Need help on carbon fiber tripods25 Apr 2007 03:06 GMT4
I currently have Gitzo 1228 and 1348 carbon fiber tripods.
The 1228 is about 21 inches folded length and weighs 3.4 pounds.
I also have very small travel tripods that are 8 inches
and less in folded length, but are too small extended

Nikon Captures Aquatic Life Thought To Be Extinct!25 Apr 2007 01:27 GMT14
Thank goodness I had the old Nikkor with me today or I would have missed a
once in a lifetime opportunity to record the second only known photograph
taken within the last 40-years of what was thought to be long extinct.
