I've recently purchased my first DSLR as I'd like to get more serious about learning photography. My current problem, is taking indoor, low light pix. Also moving objects. To put it plainly: I would like to take pictures of my 1 year old as

| Macro lenes really needed? | 22 Jan 2007 17:55 GMT | 25 |
I want to start making beautiful close-ups from flowers etc. My question is, do I need a macro lens (let's say a Nikon 105mm/2.8) if I have a Nikon 70-200mm/2.8 already? If so, why and what are the advantageous of a pure macro lens??

| IrfanView: moving selection with keys? | 22 Jan 2007 15:22 GMT | 2 |
One operation I find I'm performing quite often in IrfanView is to create a custom crop selection and specify a *square* size. For example on a photo of 1600 x 1200 I would specify 1200 x 1200. But that selection then appears on the left of the image. So I invariably

| iPhoto, RAW and the GIMP | 22 Jan 2007 15:16 GMT | 11 |
I'm trying to settle on a workflow for RAW images. I'm currently using Nikon PictureProject, but am thinking of moving to iPhoto. I'm having problems with both of these packages though: When I've got a RAW image which I'd like to edit, I can open it without a problem in the GIMP

| Anyone Own a "Pod?" | 22 Jan 2007 14:17 GMT | 20 |
I did a search for tripods for cameras with off-center mounts and found a company named Semsons that sells a bean bag with an off-center support for cameras with off-center mounts. If anyone knows a place online where they make real tripods for cameras with off-center mounts,

| Windows Vista x64 & Spyder2 | 22 Jan 2007 13:56 GMT | 48 |
It seems that the Windows Vista Ultimate x64 does NOT allow unsigned drivers, no way, no how. ColorVision has yet to release signed drivers, so I seem to be SOL on using my Spyder 2 with Windows Vista x64. Has anybody managed to find a work around

| photo printing question - panoramas | 22 Jan 2007 12:45 GMT | 13 |
I used to have an Epson printer, and during that time I bought some of their large format (8.3x254) panoramic paper. The Epson printer itself sucked though, and now I have a Canon Pixma MP500. Even tho it's a multifunction, the printer is very good, and

| Dark Pictures On Cold Snowy Days | 22 Jan 2007 12:18 GMT | 5 |
I have a little Kodak DX-3900 that takes pretty nice pictures. However, we just got some snowfall, and all the pictures I took in bright daylight today came out very dark. Can anyone explain why? And if you can, would it be possible to inform me how to prevent it?

| scans and scan | 22 Jan 2007 08:23 GMT | 4 |
Eight years ago I brought an Epson flat bed scanner and painstakingly scanned over 2000 colour PHOTOS. They were all saved to cd's as PSD files. Technology has moved on and I recently brought a Dimage Elite 5400 neg scanner. I did my best to get the neg scanner settings right ...

| Photo Management Database | 22 Jan 2007 08:08 GMT | 11 |
I am looking for a photo management database, and have not been able to find anything that suits our needs exactly. Those are: *Photos stored in a database (rather than just a database of metadata related to the images)
