I've put in 4 brand new AA batteries and within a few hours (during which the camera remained mostly closed), the "low battery" indicator was flashing. The camara was not plugged into anything.

| nightshot? | 29 Dec 2006 04:41 GMT | 11 |
Sony has a "nightshot" feature on some of their cameras and video-cameras. They advertise zero lux capability. Besides turning on one or more infrared LEDs, do these cameras put an infrared filter in front of the lens? Since the range of the IR LEDs is

| Top lenses versus top telescopes for telephoto work | 29 Dec 2006 00:30 GMT | 10 |
IMO, a good apochromatic telescope while not possessing a fast f-ratio will beat any camera lens when it comes to long tele work. For instance, compare a Takahashi FSQ106 telescope against a 500mm Nikon both operating around f5, the Takahashi scope shooting wide open, it

| paper cutter | 28 Dec 2006 21:27 GMT | 25 |
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good paper cutter for cutting photos. I only cut one at a time and the paper is no larger than 8-1/2 X 11. I have one that cost about $35 but it sometimes doesn't cut exactly square. Thanks in advance.

| cold-weather usage | 28 Dec 2006 21:12 GMT | 23 |
I'm reading the instructions for my new Pentax DSLR that say the camera's operating range is 0 degrees Centigrade or higher. Where I live it won't be above freezing until May. What kind of results can I expect if I'm taking pictures outside at 20 degrees below (Farenheit)??

| Pantone Huey | 28 Dec 2006 20:09 GMT | 4 |
Has anyone here used this little $75 monitor calibrator? It has a pretty good pedigree.....Gretag-MacBeth/Pantone Does it offer any advantages over Adobe Gamma other than being quantitative rather than relying on one's own judgment for determining

| New 2gig SD card - always 999 exp left | 28 Dec 2006 20:03 GMT | 12 |
I've got a Nikon Coolpix S1 and when I put my pre-formatted new Sandisk 2 GB memory card in, it said I've got 999 photos left to take, and 11 photos later it still says I've got 999 left. That strikes me as odd as the quality setting is at 5 megapixel per picture

| Settings on a S9500 | 28 Dec 2006 19:27 GMT | 4 |
Sorry if it's a silly question but can I set an S9500 to use as a webcam via the USB port? It seems to be stuck in DSC mode. I want to video some very close up work and need to monitor it live. The camera is fairly new to me and I know I could do this with my old

| Onboard effects on camera - any real advantage? | 28 Dec 2006 19:02 GMT | 8 |
This seems a pretty dumb question, but is there any real advantage to having onboard effects (B&W, Sepia, etc.) on a camera? To me the obvious answer is no, because I can do all this with editing software on a PC, and with much more control. But I don't pretend to be
