From the Dec. PP&I comes a brief mention of a new Zeiss lens,
custom manufactured for a private client.  Intended for use on a
Hasselblad 203 FE to "photograph wildlife at a great distance", its
focal length is 1700mm and weighs in at 564 pounds.  Aperture and

Hello - We purchased a Canon Digital Rebel nearly a year ago because my
sister had one that took marvelous photos.  95% of  the work we do with
the camera is close up work for ebay, however, and we find that on the
Macro setting, the flash pops up and then the flash washes out the

Here are the specs of an ideal camera for me:
-- APS-C sensor or bigger (thus providing a high dynamic rage a
sensitivity);
-- A very good resolution of the lens;

I read the reviews on Sony R1. It takes either proprietary Memory Stick
(MS) or CF card. The reviewers advised to get a hi-speed MS to write
the JPEG images every 1/3 second. The standard MS provided something
like 1 (or 3) seconds between the continous shots. Some other reviewers

Has anyone ever run across any lens (outside of very long ones,
exceeding f10 focal ratios) that performs best wide open?  In other
words, the residual aberrations don't decrease noticeably upon stopping
the lens down.
