| What Caused This | 12 Dec 2006 05:03 GMT | 15 |
Yesterday, my wife was taking pictures using an Olympus C-7000. It was set for basic shooting in "P" (program) mode. The conditions were clear and sunny, shooting with her back to the sun. A series of 5 pictures came out with alternating white lines going through,

| Trouble recognizing camera | 12 Dec 2006 04:59 GMT | 11 |
I get the horrible yellow exclamation point. I even tried extreme measures - buying another camera and trying the camera at a neighbor's house. The cameras work on another person's house.

| Screensaver to help *evaluate* photos | 12 Dec 2006 01:37 GMT | 5 |
Like lots of people, I have oodles of my own photos in My Pictures, some of which are pretty good and some pretty bad. I can't seem to find the time to go through them systematically and separate them out. I use the Windows screensaver which randomly shows them when I'm not using my

Do the little circles that make up some lens flares represent the passage of light across lens element boundaries - the light somehow getting stuck inside the element and making it through to the sensor out of kilter? I saw a lens flare recently that a lot of circles so I

I've still to purchase my first digital SLR and have considered the EOS 30D, I should be able to get my hands on one early next year but wonder if it's waiting on the next model to be released. Prices keep falling and specs get better, I realise that I'll have to take the plunge ...

| The Next Digital SLR Price/Performance Milestone | 11 Dec 2006 21:18 GMT | 9 |
What's the current thinking on when the next digital SLR price/performance milestone will be reached? In three years, will a Canon Digital Rebel have the same specs as today's EOS-1Ds? What is the limiting factor that's holding back the next price break? Will the gap between ...

| So Ken is now down to this - $150 beats $5000 (sic)? | 11 Dec 2006 21:02 GMT | 343 |
A few years back I quite enjoyed reading Ken's stuff. Despite the odd over-the-top comment/article, and his supersaturated disneychrome work, much of it was interesting and fairly close to the mark. But as time has gone by, imo his articles have got progressively worse,

I just purchased two Fujifilm XD 512 mb picture cards on ebay from a guy with great feedback, and when I started using them in my camera, they seemed to work fine, they replayed the photo back on the camera fine, etc. I then tried to put them into my card reader to download

| Question on what Raw converter | 11 Dec 2006 16:33 GMT | 8 |
I am just beginning to shoot raw. I have downloaded a trial version of Nikon Capture 4.4 and also a trial version of Nikon Capture NX. Is this NX overkill since I am already reasonably proficient with PS 6.0? Also, if I convert a NEF file to a JPEG am I not back to the same ...

Since a digital image can be edited ad infinitum, at what point does it stop being a photograph?
