FF sensors: is 80MP needed?09 Nov 2006 10:58 GMT172
With proliferation of half-frame 10MP cameras, a natural question is:
what is the MP count starting from which the higher resolution of the
sensor does not help to *significantly* improve the total lens+sensor
resolution.  Of course, this depends on the lens, so it makes sense to
On-camera fill-in (but very subtly) flash09 Nov 2006 10:54 GMT7
Anyone have any experience with using on-camera (in my case a D70) flash for
daylight fill-in?
I'm after achieving a very subtle lift of subject tones when shooting
people, mostly outdoors - in other words, I don't want the flash effect to

We're in the market for a new camera and have narrowed it down to
either the D80 or the 30D. Any big opinions one way or the other? Or is
a coin toss?
Cheers.
Auto ISO in  Canon SD and Powershots is not really Auto?09 Nov 2006 05:01 GMT4
I am curious.  I have the Canon A80 and I have borrowed the Canon SD 700
recently.  I noticed that when the camera's ISO setting is set to Auto,
Auto really means ISO 50 while with a friends Sony M1, the ISO does
change in Auto mode as necessary.

I am planning on purchasing my first DSLR and am looking at the Canon
Rebel XTi with the kit lense EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-22 .  I have an old ef
f/3.5-4.5 35-70mm lense and am planning on getting the 50mm f/1.8
lense.  Now my question is aimed at the the longer zoom lense.  Which

Nikon Capture resize problem08 Nov 2006 17:56 GMT12
I'm beginning to wish I'd never bought a Nikon digital camera. I
downloaded a trial of Nikon Capture NX and it must be one of the worst
pieces of software I have ever had the misfortune to use. It is so
depressingly slo-o-o-w that I thought: I know, I'll save a NEF file as
