It's time to end the megapixel race26 Oct 2006 13:58 GMT100
Cramming more and more pixels onto small sensors is a marketing ploy, with
disadvantages to unwary consumers:
1/ Less dynamic range ... more noise (especially above ISO 100)
2/ More aliasing (Moiré effects)
Canon s3 question26 Oct 2006 13:19 GMT4
I've really been reading up and practicing with the S3 and using it in
program mode.  It's seems though, I get much better less noisy shots with
the flash up, even though the subject is beyond the flashes capability (over
meters).  Does this make sense. In a semi-poorly  lit ...
Casio shows Amber "Charge Standby" and never charges. Any advice?26 Oct 2006 12:44 GMT1
I've got a Casio EX S2. When I put it on its charger, the charger,
instead showing its normal red LED charging indicator, that turns green
when the camera is charged shows an amber indicator.
The manual says that an amber indicator means "Charge Standby".
a question of ethics26 Oct 2006 11:27 GMT164
Last weekend I was traveling in my car with a friend when three emergency
vehicles passed us.  A couple of minutes later we encountered the same
vehicles at the site of an accident.  An SUV was on it's roof about 15 feet
off the shoulder of the highway.  We stopped and got out ...
Nikon D200 + 80-200mm f/2.8 + 2x Tele-Converter = ?26 Oct 2006 10:48 GMT13
I have a Nikon D200, and a Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 zoom.  I'm considering
purchasing a 2X Tele-Converter.  Will this combination work, and if so, what
tele-converter do you recommend?  It appears that Nikon's do not support AF,
but some third party ones do.
Digital Photography Showcase Sites and Child Predators26 Oct 2006 00:51 GMT10
Hello.  This is an unusual post for this group (I know because I read
this group very frequently).  I don't know where else to post it.  I
have "gotten into" digital photography in a big big way that I never
got into traditional photography, and paid for a subscription to a site

So I've decided it's either the Sony DSC-R1:

Has anyone tried this lens?
Would it be worth the investment vs 50mm 1.4
Would it be worth the investment vs 85mm 1.2
what would be the big difference from 1.4f to 1.2f?

Taking a series of pics at my son's wedding (there were other

The screen was still illuminated but the camera would not even switch
off.  There were no signs of activity (no flashing light). In
Can NiMH batteries "just die" from non-use?25 Oct 2006 16:19 GMT20
Four months ago, I got a new camera with a proprietary lithium battery
and have used that exclusively since.
Today, my wife and I both had something to go to, so I took the new
camera and my wife took the old one.  Of course it didn't work when I
