Canon 50/1.8 and dust13 Oct 2006 23:24 GMT3
Looks that Canon 50/1.8 is not really too well sealed for dust. I have kept

Nikon questions13 Oct 2006 20:50 GMT16
Is anyone familiar with the Nikon D80 (for myself) and/or the Nikon S10 (for
my friend).  I have had several Nikon cameras and liked them all.  Right
now, I am using the Nikon 8880 and would probably continue to use it, in
combination with a new camera.  I really like the 8880 ...

Suggestions on entry level camera with good macro mode?13 Oct 2006 15:47 GMT6
My Kodak DC 120 appears to be done, but it was fine for my uses, even
at 1 MB.  I need to take good close up photos for items that are
anywhere from half an inch square to several inches square.  Any ideas
about a 2 to 3 MB digital camera that is reliable and inexpensive, and

What exactly does "exposure compensation" do on a Rebel XT?13 Oct 2006 07:14 GMT6
In the "ISO setting vs Noise" thread, I mentioned a co-worker's
dilemma when taking pictures of his son playing hockey indoors.  He
wanted fast shutter, smallest aperture (most DOF), and lowest ISO, all
at a reasonable price.

What manipulations are adversely affected by 8bit images?13 Oct 2006 02:13 GMT12
I use Linux for pretty much everything, and am in the process of
getting a new camera after all these years. I'll be using RAW fairly
frequently, and want to ensure I take advantage of the increased bit depth.
However, the main software I use, Gimp, currently does all its
twain driver Nikon coolpix 840013 Oct 2006 01:01 GMT1
I have a Nikon Coolpix 8400.  Is there a twain driver for it so I can
use it directly with some graphics software that I have? It would help
me a lot.

Kodak DX453012 Oct 2006 23:06 GMT12
I have been having problems with this bloody awful camera ever
since I bought it.
Usually, at random intervals the camera will cease to function and
freeze with the lens partly retracted. Mostly this can be overcome by
