Tripod "Heads" and Quick Release Question18 Oct 2006 21:05 GMT10
I don't need the fanciest tripod around - I had never heard of tripod heads
until i started doing research - what's the advantage over a regular
tripod - And what is a "quick release" head - you don't have to screw it
into the camera?  I know these are basic questions for experts ...
Hosting/Storage of Digital Photos - Best *Free* Services?18 Oct 2006 20:54 GMT1
I recently uploaded all my 5GB of digital photos to snapfish.com. I'm
not that pleased with the way it displays the images and the lack of
ability to change the color of backgrounds, size of image displayed,
etc. There also seems to be a frequent discrepency in the amount of
Copyright revisited18 Oct 2006 20:50 GMT9
Not an actual example, but I have been wondering about this:
Imagine somebody uses a photo of mine, loses the background, applies a
couple of Photoshop filters, moves a part around changing the pose a
little, etc. Is the resulting image infringing my copyright in the US
Copyright (different question, honest)18 Oct 2006 18:57 GMT16
Having frequented the group sometime ago - and now scanning the posts
again - I would like to re-introduce myself with the following question
(purely hypothetical at present).
Let's assume I take a really great photograph (it could happen, there's
Converting .cam files to .jpg18 Oct 2006 18:02 GMT2
I have a lot of old photos on floppy disk (yes I know!) that are in
Casio's .cam format. That camera has long since bitten the dust and the
software with it. Problem is, I can no longer view the photos. I have
searched hard on the internet for a suitable program (tried Irfan View,

What ever happened to "Longhorn"?18 Oct 2006 09:39 GMT87
A year or so ago, Microsoft's next big thing was to be an OS with the
code name LONGHORN. It was to be answer to well known problems with all
previous versions of Windows and was to be released in 2007.
As I recall it was to be entirely different from existing versions of
Bird Photography18 Oct 2006 07:58 GMT68
Anyone any suggestions for taking bird photos (the avian sort). I need
a good middle of the road Digital SLR and lenses (500mm maybe). I don't
want to go bananas with the cost!
TIA

At the Fresno Fair, I was astounded to find copyright law being used
to prevent me from taking pictures of my daughter with a bird.
Specifically, at a booth where your child can pose with some colorful

Software question18 Oct 2006 02:59 GMT1
I currently use Photoshop Elements 2, which came with my Canon Rebel. I
was looking at upgrading to 5.0, but it looks like it didn't get very
good reviews. Having just come back from an Outdoor Photographer
seminar where both photographers used PSE, I'm confused....anyone have
More RAW musings and question on ACR vs. DPP18 Oct 2006 00:10 GMT2
Folks,
Focusing on one problem area I see with ACR vs. DPP (used with 20D).
That is, noisy and or posterized shadows. I have noticed that ACR seems
to push a reltatively significant amount of the blue channel down to
Submitting Photos on a CD17 Oct 2006 22:21 GMT2
We have been requested to submit  4 of our jewelry photos to a craft show
(professionally taken). The requirements state they are to be sent on a CD  "
8x10 at 72 dpi level 10".  Can anyone explain to me what this is and how do I
do it?
