Reducing File Size23 Oct 2006 21:13 GMT13
Including photos in preparing a newsletter results in too large a file size
to email. Typically 50 mb for only three pages. Obviously the photos account
for this. Can't find a way in Word 97 (or Publisher 98) to reduce the file
size of pictures when inserted.

D80 "limitation" of lower maximum shutter speed 1/4000?23 Oct 2006 16:26 GMT22
As stated in the review on http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond80/
the single downgrade comparing D80 vs D70 & D70s is the slower
maximum shutter speed ... isn't it a downgrade to worry about? what
sort of situations one will not be able to creatively shoot with the new D80
Cheapy good digital camera for 11 year old?23 Oct 2006 16:05 GMT1
My daughter wants a camera for her birthday, so fine, but what to get.
I have a Canon S3 which is good for me but will not let her near it :)
So I am after a reasonable cheapish digital camera that is easy to use,
smallish in size - anyone have any recommendations
memory card speed23 Oct 2006 14:56 GMT6
Hi, I have a Canon G3 digital camera, which I've had for a number of years
although it hasn't seen much action.  I was disappointed with the shutter
lag and due to this in three years it's taken under 700 shots.  I recently
purchased a Sony Cybershot DSC P100 and the difference ...
Where should shake compensation occur?23 Oct 2006 14:52 GMT22
I have been reading about shake compensation in cameras and in lenses.
Which is better or more important?
TIA
Digital camera suggestions for copying text23 Oct 2006 13:58 GMT10
At my workplace we are wanting to purchase a digital camera suitable
for copying text out of rare books, manuscripts and vintage newspapers
- all of which are too fragile or unwieldy to invert onto a photocopier
or flat-bed scanner. Can anyone suggest a camera which would be
Canon 18-35mm EF-S (part of XTi kit)?23 Oct 2006 13:55 GMT7
I see that the 18-35mm EF-S lens is only $100.  I'm thinking of
getting an XTi and using my existing EF lenses (35-135 IS and 100-300
IS) with it, but I'd be left without anything wider than 56mm equiv.
For $100, is the 18-35mm a reasonable soultion?  Is lens offered at

Anybody know the law on this? Isn't there some protection in the UK for
taking photos in public places?

improving the performance of my PC23 Oct 2006 11:11 GMT22
Just wondered if anyone had any advice on how to improve the processing
power of my PC.
I've got a fairly high-spec PC built around a Shuttle frame. It includes a
P4 3.0Ghz processor and 1GB of fairly fast RAM. I recently added a top end
Computer??23 Oct 2006 10:58 GMT71
I am looking at getting a new computer to work with my digital photos on.
The computer I have are about 3 years old now.  I though about upgrading
just the ram, but they are just kind of slow, even in generating the
previews of images just when looked at a folder of them in ...
Nikon D80 vs. D20023 Oct 2006 10:49 GMT24
I have a D70 and am very happy with it.  I want to upgrade to 10mp and
like the idea of a bigger rear screen; qualities shared by both the D80
and D200.  I'm happy to spend the extra bucks for a D200 if it is worth
it.  I am an amateur (nature/wildlife) and don't need the metal body ...
site to display my photos?23 Oct 2006 06:18 GMT7
At the moment I'm am using Flickr.  It is ok - the pictures
are small and uploading a file of a high resolution has been
difficult, sometimes impossible.
I hate to halve (or more) the resolution of my photos to get

accessory lenses for A610/A62022 Oct 2006 22:46 GMT2
Someone posted a great site that tested these on the camera and included
sample images. I can't find the site. Anyone have the link?
Thanks, John
