I want to replace a Casio QV-R51camera and would like advice. The

Can't rotate some Pentax DS images15 Sep 2006 20:28 GMT5
I have a Pentax istDS with 2.00 firmware.  I used to only shot raw but
have recently used best quality JPG.  Some JPG images that are shot
with the camera vertical cannot be rotated with Explorer in Windows XP
home.  Other images on the same SD card can be rotated.  If the non
Compression quandary / question15 Sep 2006 19:52 GMT4
I think I understand the basics of compression in JPGs, but I am
mystified by some observations. Specifically: Olympus E-300 with 14-53
lens, HQ setting at 1:4 compression, auto exposure. Three photos taken
at HQ setting, saved as JPGs without modification after uploading.

New Canon EF 300mm f4L IS USM?15 Sep 2006 18:27 GMT4
Well,  maybe I am crazy, but this looks like a new EF 300mm f/4L IS USM is
on the cards.
Looking at the shape, it's a vast improvement on the previous lens visually
and no doubt it's going to be excellent optically.
Is this photo too blue?15 Sep 2006 18:12 GMT13
(Not THAT "blue", the actual color blue.) It's got a lot of blue
elements in the landscape, but I think that I adjusted it to be too blue
overall. Other people I've spoken to say they like it as is. Just
thought I'd ask a few dozen strangers whose opinions I don't care about! :-D
$95 more for 1mp? Canon S2 vs. S315 Sep 2006 17:52 GMT4
So this salesman at J&R tries to convince me that a 1mp difference
between the Canon S3(6mp - $400) and the S2(5mp - $305) is worth paying
$95 more.
Besides a slightly bigger LCD, there is no other difference.
Question about tripods15 Sep 2006 17:03 GMT6
Just trying out a high-power zoom binocular, way too much power to
hand-hold.  Haven't ever used tripods before, bought one that looks
pretty sturdy, but it's still jittery when I touch the binoculars -
tough to get focused on a particular spot before zooming in.  Not sure
ACDSee 8/9 or Pro15 Sep 2006 16:26 GMT7
I am planning got buy ACDSee to help organize and catalog my photo's. I have
downloaded version 8 and am pretty happy with it thus far. Since 9 just came
out I will probably have a look at that too before I buy.
But I am also thinking about getting the Pro version, but for nearly ...
CF vs MicroDrive15 Sep 2006 15:14 GMT12
I've just purchased a Seagate 4Gb CompactFlash Photo Hard Drive.  It was
advertised as a "4GB Ultra II CompactFlash Memory Card" but is obviously a
microdrive and not a CF card.  I've never used a MicroDrive before and am
wondering if they are as reliable as CF cards.  I'll be ...
Cracked LCD screen ... what now?15 Sep 2006 11:31 GMT8
Hello, after doing a very good job for about a year my Canon Powershot
SD200 (Ixus 30) doesn't show any images. The screen isn't damaged from
the outside, but it shows just a strange blue/gray/white 'cloud image'.
The rest of the camera seems to still work perfectly, so I would like
Monitor Calibration, Gamma/Brightness Problem15 Sep 2006 10:54 GMT3
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to help me with my
monitor calibration ...
I've been using Norma Koren's tutorial
(http://www.normankoren.com/makingfineprints1A.html) to try and set up
digital photo formats Raw, Jpeg, and Tif15 Sep 2006 10:52 GMT5
I am thinking of buying a canon G6 camera and was wondering about the
different photo formats and in what kind of situations you would use
each. I was reading about White balance do you set that for each photo.
Thanks Cathy
