Faulty 420EX?22 Jul 2006 13:11 GMT3
I have a 420EX speedlight that I use with my 350D.  I'm mostly pleased
with it but there is one occasional problem I've experienced.
Sometimes when I rotate the head (in either axis) the flash indicator
in the viewfinder disappears, and the flash does not fire when I press

Sony DSC-H5 or Fuji S9000?22 Jul 2006 01:36 GMT13
Having used a Nikon Coolpix 950 for the past 5 years or so, I'm ready to
step up to a more modern digital camera.
I had previously posted a question about D-SLR's because I was
interested in a camera with high zoom capabilities, and thought that
Linux Photoshop21 Jul 2006 23:53 GMT168
Has anybody found a really good photo editor for Linux?
Thus far there's The Gimp which works solely in 8-bit format - not
useful for 12 bit RAW images.
Bibble's not too great nor is G-Photo nor many other packages.
Keeping NiMh batteries charged without overcharging them21 Jul 2006 21:20 GMT16
I know that this is off topic for this newsgroup but there is a lot
of battery discussion here.
My brother just bought a set of two FRS radios that came with NiMh
rechargeable battery packs and a charging stand (Motorola Talkabout
Compressing directory with WinRar21 Jul 2006 21:01 GMT3
Does WinRar compression cause any information loss in TIF or RAW files
as saving to JPG does?
Thanks Mike
Problems with Canon Powershot A53021 Jul 2006 20:44 GMT1
On the recommendation of Consumer Reports, I bought the Canon Powershot
530. The first camera was DOA, dead on arrival. I returned it and got a
new one that worked for five days then the screen went dead. So I
returned that one and bought a camera from a different manufacturer. At

They've moved up to 10 Mp, but still in a 1/1.8" sensor.  This won't go
down well if it's high iso performance isn't signficantly improved, and
panasonic aren't exactly renowned for low-noise, but let's wait and

weather seals21 Jul 2006 15:39 GMT6
I'm getting more and more into photography, especially nature and macro
stuff, and would like to start planning some camping/hiking trips where I
can take my gear (currently a 10D and a mixture of Canon and Tamron lenses).
I'm happy with the 10D, but have never tried to use it in ...
Wired remote for Nikon D70s21 Jul 2006 11:23 GMT7
Although I currently have a D70, I'm thinking of trading up to the D70s
because I like the idea of a wired remote (the wireless remote is limited
in usefulness because of the position of the IR sensor on the camera
body).   However, I'm told that the cable for the wired remote is ...

Micro SD21 Jul 2006 09:41 GMT3
Nikon 4200 camera. I am trying to buy more memory cards for a vacation. It
takes SD cards but I bought a 512 SD and found that the camera wont take
that size.
Local circuit city has micro SD/trans flash with a little card with the main
Differences between SD cards21 Jul 2006 09:35 GMT15
Is there much noticeable difference between one brand of SD card and
another - either in terms of reliability or (noticeable) speed improvements?
Here in the UK you can spend anything between about 15 to 80 pounds on a 1Gb
SD card.  Are there any compelling reasons not to go for ...
Which DSLR for sport photography21 Jul 2006 07:51 GMT9
I'm after a D-SLR for sports photography (non-pro).
Ideally with:
- fast burst rate ~5fps (Canon 20D, 30D or Nikon D2H, D200)
- fast focusing and if possible predictive focusing (actively following a
