computer for digital- recommendations & ideas09 Jun 2006 03:41 GMT32
I want to switch from film to digital.  I am a serious amateur that
currently is shooting a Nikon 8008s and Maymia RB 67.  I believe the first
thing I need for digital photography is a computer to handle the images.  If
I get the camera first, I won't have a way to process them.  ...

I just got my order from my trusted battery supplier, whoever was
cheapest on ebay, and now I am wondering if they may not be as good as
they claim.

Canon PowerShot A620 - Opinions?09 Jun 2006 02:05 GMT3
Hey guys. I'm just wondering what the general consensus is on this
camera? I've been shopping round for the last few days and this appears
to be the best camera I can get that stays within my budget of under
£200.

How To Stop Camera Equipment Being Stolen When Travelling?09 Jun 2006 01:35 GMT41
I have the urge to travel a bit, however I am concerned about being able to
prevent my camera equipment, money and passport being stolen.  Everything
else (even though it will be annoying) will be replaceable, but these won't.
The plan is to keep those items with me at all times, ...

My mates just come back from a tour in Iraq and wants to go holiday - the
way our diaries pan out it's going to be in about 3-4 weeks if we can get
our act together
This doesn't leave a whole load of time to research for the trip
Field photography uploading09 Jun 2006 00:05 GMT1
I'm working on a plan to allow field [assignment] photographers the
ability to upload their digital shots on-site. Years ago (2000
elections) I noticed a photographer in Ft Myers was using some kind of
hip-pack w/ a connection to a local news van (the paper had a

Self-hosting digital pictures on web08 Jun 2006 22:32 GMT3
Is there web-based software I can run on my own web server that acts
like a stripped-down Flickr or Shutterfly? It should allow me to upload
photos from my camera in JPEG format (and possibly others),
automatically produce smaller versions in several sizes, and provide a
Update on the terror/sexpest paranoia08 Jun 2006 22:02 GMT22
In relevance to previous threads on the terror/sexpest paranoia this
piece of news caught my attention; a 22 year old guy in Manchester,
England was sentenced to a month in jail and put on the sex offenders
register for 7 years for slapping the bottom of a woman while he was
Small viewfinder compared to film slr08 Jun 2006 21:37 GMT4
I have recently purchased a Canon Eos 350D. When I look through my old
Eos 650 film camera, with a 18mm lens I  can see a vast amount.
Comparing this to my 18mm on the Eos 350D the viewfinder doesn't show a
true representation.
Olympus C750 resetting08 Jun 2006 21:26 GMT9
I have an Olympus C750 and everytime I change the batteries, all the
settings reset to the defaults including time and date.
I'm sure it didn't do this when I first got it and the manual says the
settings should stay for an hour when changing batteries.
Canon EF 85mm f/1.808 Jun 2006 18:04 GMT7
I currently use the 50mm f/1.8 on my 350D for indoor candid portraits,
and it's produced some good pictures.  Sometimes however it feels a
bit short, while my 100mm is in most situations too long (in a nice
big room that's also not too crowded it's a winner, but that's not
Which Memory Card?08 Jun 2006 18:02 GMT7
Hey. I'm probably asking a really stupid question here, but is their
any difference between the different brands of memory card out there,
aside from the fact that only the Sony Memory Stick cards work in Sony
cameras. I'm asking more in terms of speed or any other important
