Many times in this newsgroup a question will be asked
about a particular lens for a Nikon or Canon or Pentax
or Olympus and other brand name cameras.
Most times a group of answers will be it is a very good

These are both getting great reviews, and having played with them in
stores they're undeniable winners.  (Especially the 620.  For $240?
Fuggeddaboudit.)
Unfortunately, I've seen literally 3 A620s in store displays with

Can anyone point me at CCD/sensor cleaning kit outlets that don't charge
hundreds of pounds for a kit? Or does such a thing not exist?
photography lighting question!25 May 2006 07:46 GMT3
I am attempting to set up a digital photography studio at my business.
I have a Sony DSC-R1 digital camera and lights by Norman.  However,
there is no input for the cords from the lights/external flash into the
camera.  I was told to purchase a hot shoe-to-hot shoe safe sync
Disk not formatted - ?25 May 2006 01:28 GMT7
Just tried to transfer a few pics and got message that the disk is not
formatted.  I've previously transferred pics from this camera with no
problems, does this mean the media has somehow become corrupted?  If I
click OK to format, I'll lose the pics in the camera?
UVFilters & Hoods25 May 2006 01:06 GMT6
I have read a lot of threads about the effects of UV filters. Everyone
seems to have an opinion. I've been using a Quantaray UV filter on my
Konica-Minolta Dimage A200 camera.  I've kept it on because I thought
it protect the lens and have no negative results on my shots.  I took
given file size limit, optimize jpeg level and resolution?25 May 2006 01:01 GMT9
One of the classified ads site I use has a file size limit of 200KB on the
photo and it has to be jpeg file.
My camera is 6MP resolution and produces a 2MB file. Obviously I need to
resize/recompress the file. But resize to what? I could keep the high
Your thoughts on a new HiVR Panorama algorithm24 May 2006 23:42 GMT5
I want to get your opinion on a new VR Panorama algorithm I developed.
I'm necessarily asking you to download it (although you can; I will
give the url at the end), but mostly on how to -describe- it.
Basically, it 's an algorithm that is meant to move away from the
"Pocket Camera"24 May 2006 23:33 GMT17
A popular phrase for small point and shoot cameras is "pocket camera".
I've seen a number of posts in this newsgroup that indicates this is a
literal use (as opposed to say, a pocket battleship), that is, they
actually put the camera in their pocket on a routine basis.
Writing off gear?24 May 2006 22:02 GMT22
I am an advanced amateur photographer and will be taking an 'extreme
adventure' vacation this summer. A friend of a friend is editor of a
well-known travel magazine who heard about my somewhat unique vacation
and said that the magazine would be interested in seeing a spec
Need help processing passport photo24 May 2006 18:51 GMT19
I am looking for somebody who would process my passport photo. It is in
the correct format (2x2in.) but it needs some processing. If you are
proficient with PhotoShop or some similar program, I would be grateful
if you helped me.
calibration image files24 May 2006 18:38 GMT5
I've been finding that the use of proof viewing in PS doesn't
completely cut the mustard, even with a calibrated monitor
and supposedly accurate printer profile.
So, I've been devising images intended to do the following:
Powershot s80 buzzing noise - is this normal?24 May 2006 16:20 GMT8
I've recently purchased a canon Powershot s80 which I'm very pleased
with.
However, I've noticed that if the camera is in shooting mode and the
LCD display is on, there's a slight buzzing noise coming from the
