I notice that the Olympus are cheaper but I am buying a Fuji. Don' they both use the same technology or did each manufacturer somehow make their cards proprietary?

I will be on a trip to England and the continent in May. It would be nice to walk inti an internet cafe, put my SD cards in a reader, and upload them to my Linux system. If I take video clips the size would be in gigabytes.
