Bomb just exploded next door - some pics here15 Mar 2006 20:23 GMT10
A bomb exploded 30 m from my house an hour ago. It didn't do a lot of
damage, but it was LOUD. The target was the main office of the state
Directorate of Land Revenue & Settlement, the department responsible
for collecting land and building taxes. I guess it was a token bomb
Storage of backup copies on CD15 Mar 2006 19:59 GMT21
Hello, All!
I have noticed several scare stories about the short life time
of CDs written by computers. I recently had occasion to look at
the pictures stored on several CDs, all Memorex brand, both CD-R

thoughts on new Canon compacts?15 Mar 2006 07:30 GMT56
I have a tax refund coming and had been thinking of buying an A610,
but suddenly there's a flock of new models in that series.  Any
thoughts about whether the A610 is still a good choice?  It's a bit
larger than I'd really like, but it has a 1/1.8" sensor and very long
4/3 Panasonic L1 - Leica DSLR?15 Mar 2006 05:55 GMT4
Announced at PMA, the Panasonic L1 joins the Olympus 4/3 crowd,
also with ultrasonic dust removal.
What's perhaps more interesting is the Leica 14-50/2.8-3.5 lens
that was announced at the same time.
Help need viewfinder hacks for compact LCD screens15 Mar 2006 03:41 GMT54
I'm sure someone must have come up with a way to jerry rig some sort of
viewfinder for those compact cameras that don't have one.
Those lcd screens aren't worth squat as far as street photography and grab
shots go, and yet it seems that's the only thing the better compact units

I won an Olympus D-360L Digital Camera (SmartMedia) and would like to but a

Olympus C-770UZ disassembly15 Mar 2006 02:13 GMT4
Avid readers might remember that I previously called for help because my
C-770UZ wouldn't shut down. Eventually it wouldn't start up either.
Estimates from repair shops far exceeded the cost of a used 770UZ...
I've got my 770UZ mostly disassembled. Generally, screws hold it ...
2 times Zeiss?15 Mar 2006 00:13 GMT12
Some years ago (during the time Germany was two countries) there were two
Zeiss companies. Zeiss Ikon and Carl Zeiss Jena.
Which produced the better product?
Was the lesser quality product any good?
