The logistics of film scanning02 Feb 2006 01:40 GMT5
Hello. I inherited a 35mm SLR from my grandfather.  Up until now, I've
been taking pictures with a 5 mega pixel Canon Powershot, which, while
nice, leaves the perfectionist in me irritated with the lack of
contrast, shallow tones, and CCD noise from low light conditions.  So,

Nikon have leaked my email address to spammers02 Feb 2006 00:00 GMT29
Grrr. Be very careful about which email address you give to Nikon when
registering...
I registered with a unique email address @ a domain I own. Now I'm
getting sent spam that contains viruses, to the very address I gave

Confused about skylight/UV filter for digital01 Feb 2006 22:52 GMT30
At http://dpfwiw.com/filters.htm#uv it says, "So much for theory. In
practice, these theoretical UV filter benefits simply don't show up on
the digital side. Under nearly all conditions and for nearly all
cameras, UV filters are a waste of money and a potential source of flare

35mm->Digital converter - was it ever made?01 Feb 2006 18:54 GMT2
I remember many moons ago that someone was talking about a cartridge
that would convert a 35mm camera to a digital - called Silicon Film or
something.
Was it ever produced (or did anyone else produce one)?
Profile problem01 Feb 2006 16:27 GMT6
Well I have a Canon 10D with Photoshop 7.01 but something new started
happening.  I got a new laptop with window XP, put Photoshop on it and
calibrated with Eye One.  Now when I open files from the card reader it says
profile doesn't match the camera profile.

A few more Brooklyn Store Front Pictures01 Feb 2006 16:04 GMT3
It was a lovely day here in Brooklyn, and as both of my appointments were
in the morning I had the opportunity for an afternoon bicycle ride. So I
headed up towards Williamsburg.
I put up seven new pictures. Two replaced ones already up that had been
Importing images via XP directly...anything wrong with this?01 Feb 2006 15:35 GMT5
I've been using XP's "scanner" option to simply input my images from
the D200. I've read about Nikon Capture and others, but this method
seems to work very well. Quick, clean and all my EXIF data is there.
Is there anything wrong with this? I feel like I'm doing something
Slide scanning recommendations01 Feb 2006 15:14 GMT14
I have several hundred slides I would like to scan.  I figure I have a
couple of options:
1) Pay a professional to scan them
2) Buy a slide scanner (prefer with automatic loading tray).

How can I calibrate my PC monitor without buying an expensive piece of

Any diff among battery packs?01 Feb 2006 14:02 GMT18
I'm getting a Digital Rebel 350XT and wondering if I should buy an extra
battery pack. I notice that the Canon pack NB-2LH  is 720 mAh goes for
$50 at B&H. They have an Impact 900mAh for $32. Then I found a Dynamic
Power 900mAh for $26. I ran across some other brand for $19.
