(Lossy) compression of 16bit images03 Feb 2006 07:52 GMT3
We're scanning some slides and get 100MB files in the 16bit TIF mode.
Since normal JPEG doesn't support 16bit images, the only option seems to
be JPEG2000, or is there some other file format to compress the images,
in lossy or lossless mode ?
UV filter for digital?03 Feb 2006 05:14 GMT15
Just got the D200 and need to know about basic protection filters. I
used an A2 on my F100 but some people have told me that I don't need
it on digital. Do I just get a clear UV to protect the lens? Thanks
for any help.
Will it ever exist?03 Feb 2006 03:59 GMT16
When I first learnt about digital SLRs, I thought that the simplest
thing to have would be just a digital databack (for whatever existing
camera) with a digital sensor in place of the film plate, possibly a
small screen to view the pictures (but a wireless connection to a palm

Small cameras getting too small?03 Feb 2006 03:12 GMT50
My wife has been using a Canon S400 for the past couple of years and it had
just a great balance of size and function. Took great snapshots and even had
a very nice fitted soft leather case. Very easy to hold/use. Well, last year
the camera was lost on a vacation which put us in ...

1) I've been anticipating this for the last couple years (and hoping it
would not happen).
Nothing to fear really as my cameras all still work.
2) K-M should at least receive kudos for transferring the Maxxum/Dynax

This was taken with a 20D, with the cheap 50mm Canon lens. I used
a small aperture and long exposure time.
Now, the questions:
350 D or D70s02 Feb 2006 22:50 GMT9
I need your expertise advice here.
At present I have a Fuji s7000, which in fairness takes some great pics for
me, but I now want to break into the DSLR market. I am mainly interested in
2 kinds of photography, Landscape(as I live in Ireland) and Sport.
Lens adapter manufacturer02 Feb 2006 21:45 GMT4
I've been buying lots of T-mount camera adapters to adapt digital cameras
to older ophthalmic instruments.  These say "Made in India" on them, but
that's all.  Anyone know who the manufacturer is?
