Canon S2 viewfinder in bright light18 Feb 2006 06:59 GMT6
I am thinking about buying this camera, but a couple of reviews have
stated that both the viewfinder and lcd screen are difficult to see in
bright light.  I would use it frequently in bright settings, such as
the beach, soccer games, etc.  Is it really difficult to use in bright
16bit vs 8bit for prints18 Feb 2006 06:40 GMT15
A photographer friend of mine processes everything in Photoshop in 16 bit
RAW.  When he wants to have a print made he changes the image to an 8 bit
tif.  He says that the reason for dropping to 8 bit is that most photo labs
have 8 bit printers.
Nikon lens advise sought18 Feb 2006 06:34 GMT8
I have a Nikon F90X which sometimes gets used when only film will do.
Currently it uses a 28-70 zoom but what I really need is a macro lens
for detailed machineery shots which I can also use for photographing
documents and paintings without barrel distortion.
Casio QV-R51 shutter delay18 Feb 2006 05:07 GMT4
We have a QV-R51 which generally takes great pictures but takes FOREVER
to take them.  I've made sure that the battery is full, turned off
red-eye reduction, and played with everything else I can think of but I
press the shutter button, count to 100 (OK, maybe only 3) and _then_

Problem with portable HDD18 Feb 2006 02:20 GMT2
A few weeks ago I bought an 80 G compact drive with built-in card
readers. Up until a few days ago I also used it as USB drive while
sorting out my other drives. My Computer always indicated its capacity
and available space as it does with my other USB drives but now it is
Monitor Calibrators17 Feb 2006 23:28 GMT21
I've searched the archives on this, and got alot of answers, many
conflicting.  What are your opinions of the latest versions of the
Gretag EyeOne vs  Monaco Optix for using on a) a cheap Dell CRT and b)
an Apple Cinema 20" (my next purchase, although I use a PC)?  I would

Organizing photos17 Feb 2006 21:38 GMT13
I recently purchased a nice sony Cyber-shot DSC p200 digital camera for
my wife and she has been taking pictures like crazy.
The software that came with the camera seems to create a separate
folder each time we download photos from the camera.  I haven't really

Seeking advice: photographing a school play17 Feb 2006 20:40 GMT14
In a couple months, I'm going to be the official photographer for a
play put on by a local school. This is the first time I've ever really
done photography for anyone other than myself, and as such am a little
nervous about getting it right. (Please note: They understand that I'm
embedding names in photos17 Feb 2006 19:32 GMT6
Is there a way to embed names in photos so that a search may be made at
a later date to retrieve a selected person? This would be where
multiple people are in photos and you just want to pull up one person's
list of pictures in a stored set of pictures (say, 1,000 to 5,000
Canon 17-85 IS, or 17-40L?17 Feb 2006 18:35 GMT4
What zoom lens would you go for on a 20D?  EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM or a
EF 17-40mm f/4.0L USM?
Obviously, the 17-85 has a greater focal length/range and is image
stabilised, but the 17-40 is an 'L' lens, which are renouned for their
