Something like Flickr, but without forced downsizing?20 Feb 2006 23:30 GMT2
I uploaded some pictures to Flickr last night for the first time. It
seems OK (barely) and it is free. But what killed it for me was that it
automatically downsized all the pictures I uploaded to something about
close to one megapixel.

Help! The LCD on my recently purchased Canon Ixus 50 has cracked. A
retailer advised me that he has seen about 15 cameras crack in the
exact same spot as mine. My camera has never been dropped or handled
roughly. It was suggested to me that just closing the leather cover

I have a problem with my Canon S50 where the mode selector dial at the

a physical switch but is it hard to fix? The Canon Service Centre says
it no economical to fix. I have only taken 800 pictures on it so it

Deleted Photographs20 Feb 2006 19:46 GMT6
There was a recent question about recovering photographs that had been
deleted by accident. It appears there are two free downloads with which you
can recover these files,  after telling a friend about this, I cannot find
any trace of it!!

Scanning photos onto one's hard drive - why are the photos clearer than the scan20 Feb 2006 17:25 GMT14
Does anybody understand why when one scans photos off an Epson 1200
Perfection (not accurate I think) scanner the results are slightly less
sharp than looking at the photo itself.
I'm scanning at 600 dpi and resizing the picture to 1100 x 700 pixels.
Sharpen, reduce noise, in-camera, ugh!20 Feb 2006 16:31 GMT8

of the cheaper (and / or more compact) camera images look ...
Sudden CF price drops?20 Feb 2006 15:42 GMT16
Last Thursday I was pricing CF cards, in the 1 to 2 GB range. I'd
pretty much decided on the SanDisk Extreme III model, and was trying to
make up my mind to go for a pair of 1GBs for $103 each, or spring for a
single 2GB at $220.
digital photos from our African safari20 Feb 2006 14:47 GMT21
Spent a couple of weeks in Tanzania photographing wildlife with Canon
digital cameras (the guys in our group with Nikons did great too, the
200-400 f/4 VR with a D2x is an incredible combo).  We were pretty
happy with the images of cheetahs, lions, elephants and birds.  Pretty
