Marketing ruins an opportunity03 Dec 2005 06:39 GMT3
The megapixel marketing binge has ruined a good opportunity.  An
opportunity to release a perfect P&S, one with a low noise 5 megapixel
sensor.
Currently, the only low noise P&S camera is the Sony R1 which uses a
Ixus 400 problems03 Dec 2005 03:54 GMT1
I am new to this forum, so apologies if this is off topic for here
I have an Ixus 400 that got the E18 error after it was dropped. I have pulled the camera apart and found the outer lens barrel (the bigger of the 2) has stripped teeth on the drive.
Do any of you know how this can ...
Stroboscopic snowflakes?03 Dec 2005 03:41 GMT8
It doesn't snow very often here in Vancouver, BC - unlike the rest of
Canada - so when it started snowing heavily a couple of nights ago I
decided to take some time exposure shots of the falling snow,
illuminated by a nearby street lamp.
Lens and filter cleaning?03 Dec 2005 02:31 GMT10
I managed to get a fingerprint smudge on my ultraviolet filter, and in
removing the filter, managed to slightly fingerprint the lens as well.
What is the best way to clean these smudges?
I have a lens cloth, and have some "eyeglass cleaner", but figured I'd

Dark jpgs03 Dec 2005 00:05 GMT18
I have a new (it's my first digital camera) Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ1 which
I've just started playing with.  When I transfer images to computer, they're
coming out darker than they appear on the LCD screen.  I've been reading
about color spaces and tried using AdobeRGB1998 but still ...
Any good current camera review sites02 Dec 2005 23:32 GMT7
Anyone know of some websites that have current reviews about cameras that
are broken down by price etc that a search can be done on - was looking at
the PC mag one but most reviews were done during 2004 - a year ago is a long
time in this market.
Front Element Rotation02 Dec 2005 23:20 GMT8
Wonder if someone could help explain:
1. What is front element rotation?
2. Why is this a "negative" aspect to any lens?
3. Does this affect the use of filters?
Resolution02 Dec 2005 23:16 GMT3
I was just thinking about lenses and pixels. I was comparing my
Minolta F300 on the Imaging Resource Comparometer
with other cameras. I didn't use the comparometer when
I bougth the camera, but did use the resolution photos
Canon 18-55mm kit lense - jerky joom problem02 Dec 2005 18:23 GMT19
I'm looking at buying a Canon 350D with the standard 2-lens kit (18-55mm
& 55-200)
However, the smaller lense seems very sticky zooming at the wider end of
its range - around 18-24mm.  If you zoom fast it's fine, but if you try
Why do normal lenses tend to be the cheapest primes?02 Dec 2005 17:59 GMT11
Is it for some reason cheaper to make a lens with f=diagonal of
film frame, or is it because of the higher demand?
Microsoft patents web phot galleries?02 Dec 2005 17:07 GMT23
Microsoft has been issued a US patent (US #6,964,025) for software
which enables "a user to easily and automatically create a photo
gallery of thumbnail images on a Web page." This is further explained
to mean that a "user selects a group of original images, and the tool
Sigma EF-500 / D7002 Dec 2005 15:49 GMT9
I just bought a Sigma EF-500 Super for my Nikon D70.
Did I screw up? I can't get the camera to shoot when the flash is in
TTL mode, no matter what settings I try. I can only take pictures with
the flash in M mode.
