I took some pics of a friends Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever
(NSDTR or Toller for short). I received this e-mail
Saw you had posted some Toller pics. Do you have any that could be
Odd Sunset13 Dec 2005 00:23 GMT6
I was taking photos of a sunset last week and when I finished, I moved the
camera too quick and got this result:

It's almost good.  Looks like a waterfall of sorts, but there are several
Dumb questions13 Dec 2005 00:08 GMT9
I'm puzzling over which camera to buy.. the Canon A610 (5mp), or the
A620. I can get the A620 (7mp) for around £27 more.
Is it worth the extra money, considering I will be printing at A4 size?
Will the 7mp camera give noticeably better results at A4 than the 5mp one?
what happened to olympus 7070?12 Dec 2005 23:56 GMT2
looks like they're being discontinued. but what is the model olympus is
replacing it with?
"spy lens" attachment?12 Dec 2005 23:24 GMT8
I'm curious if such a device/attachment exists:  A wire/cable which on
one side plugs into the digital camera, and on the other side a small
lens.  This "lens on a wire" could be concealed in a pair of glasses or
button on a shirt.  Since video doesn't require flash, the camera
EOS 1d images print better yet look worse on screen than my d6012 Dec 2005 23:11 GMT4
Is there a reason for this? It doesnt make sense at all to me, but its the
truth! I was worrying about a set of prints that I took both cameras to.
When onscreen the shots I really wanted were of the 1d - there were similar
but lesser shots with the d60. Onscreen though everything ...
Buying a camera from an online store to be shipped to South Africa12 Dec 2005 22:56 GMT7
I have researched prices and know that I will save a lot by buying from
an international website (online shop) rather than directly from a shop
in SA.
As far as I know I will only have to pay VAT on the purchase.
Why 3:2 ?12 Dec 2005 21:14 GMT96
Just wondering why most DSLRs use the 3:2 aspect ratio, when a 4:3
aspect ratio makes better use of the lens, i.e. uses more the (sharper)
central part of the lens.
I understand that film is standardised at 36x24mm, but with a DLSR any
Question about flash + daylight12 Dec 2005 20:37 GMT4
I read somewhere about stopping the flash down (1 stop) to help it
blend with daylight. How can this be measured - won't the ambient light
level in the room prevent the accurate use of a light meter to reduce
the flash level? Or is this just done ad-hoc? I have Photogenic strobes

Best Photoshop Feature You've Never Heard Of?12 Dec 2005 16:50 GMT2
I went to a Photoshop Seminar yesterday given by Katrin Eismann.
As is the norm for most of these things, she covered a wealth of
information and it all comes at you rather quickly.  She covered her
specialties, Layers, Masking, Compositing, etc., as well as some of the

D70 and Histogram12 Dec 2005 16:23 GMT53
Trying to learn the ropes on the new D70 I got...
When I down load the images into Picasa (i shoot in jpeg), the
histogram doesnt cover the full range for most of the photos, about
1/4th of the range has no values, at one of the ends of the histogram.

Correct D70 USB cable?12 Dec 2005 16:10 GMT12
I purchased a Nikon D70 secondhand.
Its USB socket appears to take a square plug and has four pins. But
the cable supplied has only two and, while it fits into the socket,
only occupies half of it.
