Canon Powershot S50 problem -- can't take pics!14 Dec 2005 03:35 GMT1
Hello all. I have a problem with my Canon Powershot S50.  I picked it
up the other day and noticed that I can't see anything through the LCD.
It's black.  Then when I pointed at things to take a photo, nothing
showed -- I just got black. I've opened and shut the door over the lens
Pentax *ist DL and Raw Essentials14 Dec 2005 03:13 GMT6
Raw Essentials reads my raw Pentax *ist PEF files for a second, then
turns them into pink or bluish squares that are uneditable. Does anyone
know about this issue? I think it's probably the kind of raw files produced
by the camera: FastStone will show them but won't let me ...
Panasonic FX30..why not use 2/3rds sensor???14 Dec 2005 01:29 GMT8
It's a shame they stuck with the old 1/1.8.  The camera has great
resolution, but then noise clubs it's quality like a baby seal.
I suppose the camera might have ended up too large (for them)
if they had to provide a lens that would support a larger sensor?
Lighting small items,  suggestions14 Dec 2005 01:25 GMT4
Can anyone give me any suggestions for lighting smallish  (from say a camera
size up to size of a PC monitor)  items for photographing. It is nothing
professional but mainly for taking pictures of items for sale on ebay. I
have tried using a small table lamp but this appears to give ...

Strobes and hot lights14 Dec 2005 00:35 GMT5
Is there any way to change the color temp of a strobe to match tungsten?
Right now I have a lot of hot lights but want to pick up an alienbee 800.
For hi-key I was hoping to use the hot lights on the background and the
strobe for the main light.  Thanks...
Fujis "known to break"?13 Dec 2005 20:18 GMT19
Having dutifully done my homework, I settled on getting a
Fuji Finepix F10 as a first digital camera.
When I got to the (very reputable) photography store, the
salesman immediately tries to discourage me from buying a

Does anyone know if someone makes a conversion lens adapter for Fuji F11 or
F10? (I'd like a use a wide angle conversion lens with F11.)

Olympus SP-500 UZ  Importance of image stabilizer??????13 Dec 2005 17:50 GMT1
This camera seems to get pretty good reviews except some complain about no
image stabilizer.  I know this would be an advantage with a camera that has
10x optical but is it important enough to make one decide not to buy this
camera.
Where to put pictures on the web?13 Dec 2005 16:08 GMT3
Anyone recommend any good, free, easy to use, photo sharing software?
Just want to put a few family pics on-line and let various relations
download at their leisure.
Thanks,

DLSR sensor cleaning site13 Dec 2005 14:38 GMT4
I stumbled across this while searching for an inexpensive CO2 snot
cleaning system.
This site reviews many current commercial camera cleaning systems, and
has a page on making your own tools.
Phil Askey's ambiguity13 Dec 2005 14:27 GMT50
I've really appreciated in the past dpreview's web professionality
especially on the structure/presentation/tests part.
Nevertheless I was quite disappointed when, having read Canon's Powershot
G3, I've bought it and shooted my first pics, to realize rubbinesh of what I
