| Long exposure and small aperture? | 18 Dec 2005 17:15 GMT | 12 |
I've been reading 'The Making of Landscape Photographs' by Charlie Waite. He often uses 1 or 2 second shutter speeds with an f.22 or f.32 or f.22/f.32 aperture. I wondered what good did that do. Why not use 1 second @ f.8 or f.16. Why all the way up to f.22 and f.32?

| Computer monitors | 18 Dec 2005 05:23 GMT | 148 |
What should one look for in a monitor for viewing photos in the under 500$ range. I see Viewsonic has a 21" CRT with 2048x 1536 or 3.145m resolution and LCDs are much much lower. Best Buy told me LCD are the best for photos. I use a Sony W5. Isnt the highest resolution the ...

| Canon 350D 70-200 F4L VS 70-300 IS F4-5.6 | 18 Dec 2005 04:16 GMT | 11 |
I thought I've narrowed down my choice of lenses for my new 350D. First lens is the 17-85 IS. Second choice was the 70-300 IS, but I'm hearing a lot of good things about the 70-200 F4L. The longer telephoto will be used primarily for sports/nature and I'm wondering if I should ...

Flash became wonky last night, and although fully charged, wouldn't fire the 580. Turning it off, and finally removing it from the shoe finally worked for a while, then couldn't get it to power the flash.

| Any hints for taking pics of Christmas lights? | 18 Dec 2005 00:09 GMT | 12 |
In the next couple of weeks, I may have chances to take pictures of local "Cavalcade of Lights" at a couple of places. Question 1) Should I even bother... Panasonic FZ5, ISO 80/100/200/400, and a mini-tripod, assuming I can find a place to rest the tripod. Max
