At work, they've hung some rather large photographic prints: say 6 feet tall and 3 feet wide. The people in some of them are almost life-sized. Looking at one up close, I could see every hair on the eyelashes, individual hairs on the head... you get the idea: astonishing detail.

I'm considering buying this lens to use on my D70, however I'm very hesitant as it is a zoom. I would like to hear from somebody who has compared this lens at 400mm to say, a 400 2.8 or other fixed focal length. Thanks much
